Many people don’t remember that in its first season, Mannix was about a high-tech detective who worked for a company that used computers to direct what its agents did, so Mannix in Space would be closer to the show’s original concept than were the final 8 seasons, in which Mannix ran his own agency and drove around getting into fights. (Mike Connors was a lot better suited to playing an independent tough guy than a computer-driven agency man.)
