And oh how I wish we all would just pick a time and stay with it! I have never heard a convincing argument for the system that we have now. Gobbledegook about farmers and school kids and energy “saving” probably made sense in 1945. It makes no sense now.
From 1949 to 1967, different counties in Indiana could choose between being on Central time or Eastern time… and whether or not to observe Daylight Savings Time. So if you’re traveling from one county to another, and the time was important (for an appointment, or the starting time of an event) you had to find out what time it was there.
All animals go by the sun. People did too for awhile. Then some idiot thought it would save energy back during WW1 and it was re-established for the same purose in the 70’s. Several engineering groups have proven that it doesn’t save energy at all. People turn lights on when it’s dark, whether it morning or evening, street lights are on from dusk to dawn, etc.
Last night I imagined myself trying to explain Daylight Saving Time to my cats and burst out laughing. They’re pretty good about letting me sleep but if they are hungry, I hear the call. Raz will sing several verses of “The All My Food Bowls are Empty Blues”.
Husband and I are still on “Covid” time. Neither of us is a “morning person”. (as I write this it is 3:04am and we are having our third meal of the day – “late night snack” and watching TV while I read and post), though I am worse than him. We are both retired – or in my case, mostly so – down to 5 accounting clients, and we have a very small handcrafted business we run. )
So since we were not going anywhere early in Covid – we stayed up late and woke up late. We rearranged our meals to lunch when we woke up, dinner at normal (for us) 8 pm and around 2 or 3 am we have “late night snack” aka breakfast before going to bed for the night.
We are trying to work our way back to a more normal time range as we get back to going to my going to my embroidery club’s morning meetings again and going to reenactment events again.

Old native American observation. “Only white man would cut end off blanket and sew it on the other end and think the blanket was longer.”

Sun come up, it’s time to eat, sun goes down, it’s time to sleep.
Life is much more normal in states where we don’t celebrate daylight savings time.

I was truly shocked when I found out my normally smart husband believed the time change was for farmers!

Hated the time change. We never could explain it to the milk cows.
