The local Certified Walnut Appraiser must have been busy this fall. One of our neighbors has a Black Walnut tree and most of the ripe wall nuts, in their tennis ball size husks, end up in our yard. The squirrels wait until the husks deteriorate and then leave a mess of husk detritus on our lawn or outdoor furniture. The squirrels then chew through the shells of the walnuts to get the meats and leave the shells scattered around.
