Reminds me of that old Jonathan Winters skit of an Indian getting off his pony by a river, scooping up and sipping a palmful of water and saying “Mmmm. Buffalo upstream.”
This strip remines me of the time I drank ice cold water from the Big Lost River north of Arco, Idaho. Wonderfully refreshing and the rainbow trout were tasty as well.
True story: I was a boy scout in my youth. One weekend, our troop did a hike up a mountain. We all had our canteens, along with all the other scout paraphernalia. We came upon a babbling brook, thinking it would be a good place to top off our canteens, we all did so. Resuming our climb, a few yards upstream, we found a very dead and very rotten racoon laying in the same stream. A few of us barfed but lived to tell about it.
One summer about 60 years ago, I was traveling with my stepfather across the Nevada high desert. We stopped at a roadside park. It had an old-fashioned water hand pump. We pumped up some of the coldest and tastiest water I have ever had. No fear of upstream pollution as the limestone had probably aready filtered out the worst things.

I prefer my water without organisms, thanks anyway.

The best water is if you can get it from where it comes out of the ground.

Filling the bottles on wells was always the best part of hikes in my childhood :-)

Most organic substances I do not want in my water. C8H10N4O2 is an exception.

it looks good and all, but you don’t know what’s upstream from the falls. There could be a dead deer 20 yards upstream decaying into the flow
