Last night, I watched an episode of “Colonel March of Scotland Yard” – a 1950s TV show starring Boris Karloff. It was called “The Case of the Kidnapped Poodle” and contained an unusual boy and his dog story – a boy and his poodle. The boy was called Willie and his pet poodle had been stolen – or “kidnapped” as he put it. The boy obviously loved his dog very much and saw her as a human. I thought it rather unusual that a boy’s beloved dpg should be a female poodle as these are usually a girl’s pet dog. A rare case of a 1950s TV show breaking gender stereotypes.

As I have said before, “Rover’s butt is the butt of most of the gas jokes in this strip but Red’s butt is sometimes the butt of a gas joke.”
