I read an account by a Dad who came across his two small sons tussling with one another over a favorite toy. He simply pointed to the Elf sitting on the mantelpiece, silently observing the action. The boys… realizing they had been “caught” in a naughty/not-nice moment… burst into tears!
A Christmas tradition going all the way back to 2005.
In my family it goes back much sooner than that. When I first started dating my wife back in 1965, I gave her a Christmas present. My mom thought it would be “cute” to attach an elf to the box.
Her mother liked the elf and it became a part of her house’s Christmas decoration every year since. The elf did not move every day, but it did move every year. Now that my wife’s parents have passed away, we inherited the elf and keep up with the tradition.

Thank Heavens. At least the cat has sense enough to get rid of the cheesy, money grab attraction.
