Well, if the cabbie had a paying passenger, holding his ground would make sense until the passenger realized the standoff was on his dime (so to speak). If the cabbie didn’t have a passenger, he was wasting his time when he could be hauling paying customers. He should have backed off sooner.
If the cabbie only had to back up 20 feet so the woman could enter the driveway then the answer is obvious. If one or the other had to back up to the cross street to let the other pass then it becomes a mess.
Seems like a whole lot of wasted time. Just because it’s your house; you do not own the street. The cab driver earns by driving people, not sitting in protest of a self entitled brat. Real life is a pretty good joke.☺️
Despite coming from a middle class background, I attended Princeton where there were a great deal of well-off students. I used to joke that they didn’t come over on the Mayflower, but they did own it.
What I learned from them was that money was less of a social barrier than good manners. It wasn’t exactly noblesse oblige, but the idea that you would hold your privilege over someone’s head just wasn’t done. It would lead to ostracism, which is why Ted “Rafe” Cruz has to come to reunions through the service entrance.
I lived in Egypt for a while back in the ’70s. There the bigger car had the right of way. When the cars were the same size it often resulted in a collision.

I think my default assumption is that a Mercedes is always in the wrong, unless Lewis Hamilton or George Russell are involved.

In New York, there would have been blood. In California, it’s just thrown lattes.

This problem comes up all the time for me: There are lots of things I’d like to boycott, but I never bought or used them in the first place.
