I remember working in a local language school and the boss saying “Well you can start on a trial basis and we’ll see how you go.” In my 21 yr old ignorance, in a couple of months I asked him “So how am I doing?” He responded as if he couldn’t believe I said it: “Well, that’s rather a personal question!” I said, “Yeah, it’s about my person!” but right then I knew it wasn’t a good situation. He was all about “staff meetings” and yet we never got anything like feedback. At the end of the school year I got my paycheck and walked out, never went back.
