In some parts of the world it’s called “Little Christmas Eve.”

In Iceland December 23 is called “Þorláksmessa”, which would translate to “(St.) Thorlak’s Mass”. St. Thorlak is the only Icelander ever to be canonized by the Catholic church.

Actually, it’s the shortest day of the year.

It’s not so bad.

I was at the 225th anniversary of the battle of lexington and concord, we formed up at 3 am and were at it marching ad fighting until after 6pm. the crowds loved it but at the ‘celebratory’ dinner that evening. Brigadier General Vivan started his address with the words “Winton Churchill was wrong. June 6th 1944 was not the longest day.”

Seems like the days are getting longer now.

In Newfoundland we call it Tibb’s Eve and it’s an excuse (as if one were needed) to get drunk.

Not true. When I was a kid the longest day of the year was Christmas Eve. The day before CE was the second longest day of the year.

In other parts, it’s called Christmas Adam, because Adam came before Eve. Celebrate with a McRib.
