Well, this gives me an opportunity to give some pointers for a healthy marriage:
Consider a party. You have hosts and you have guests. The host fills the candy dish, the guest helps themselves to the candy. When you join together in marriage, do you act like a host or a guest?
If one is a host and one is a guest, the marriage works, but only for a while. Eventually the host gets tired of filling the candy dish.
If both are acting as guests, the candy runs out pretty quickly and the marriage fails.
If both are acting as hosts, the dish is full and running over, and the married couple live happily ever after.
Yesterday evening, I watched another episode of The Footage Detectives on Freeview 82. As I have explained before, this is a nostalgic series which mainly looks at footage from old movies and TV shows but also looks at peoplesâ memories of old toys, sweets and comics from their childhood.
Yesterdayâs episode contained another mention of Buster Comic. It came in a letter from a viewer who drew two comic strips for Buster about thirty years ago. One strip was called Money Tree and the other was about a genie. The viewer recalled that the front-page character Buster was originally billed as âBuster â Son of Andy Cappâ. He claimed that it had been dropped because Reg Smythe had objected to this. I have read elsewhere that it was dropped because the Daily Mirror had lost control of Fleetway Comics which would later merge with Odhams to form IPC Comics. The Daily Mirror would gain control of IPC Comics in the early 1990s and change the name back to Fleetway Comics. They would go back to using the billing âBuster â Son of Andy Cappâ during that period. Buster did appear in a painting within the Andy Capp strip by Reg Smythe in 1995 to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the first issue of Buster Comic.
Attention all UK Andy Capp fans! Check out âThe Footage Detectivesâ on Talking Pictures TV tonight at 7pm. Iâve provided information regarding Andy Capp and his connection with Buster comic. I was lucky enough to contribute to Buster in the 90âs and some of my artwork will be featured. As Calvinist1966 said earlier, it was on yesterday and itâs repeated tonight!
Sorry folks. The edition of tonightâs Footage Detectives is not a repeat of yesterdays and so my item on Andy Capp wonât be repeated until the 20th January. You can access last nightâs edition by going to Talking Pictures TV and pressing the red button.
By the way, l did mention to Mike and Noel that Buster appeared in an Andy Capp strip in 1995 to celebrate 35 years of Buster comic and included an image.

Andy has a successful marriage according to the counselor. A fine win for Capp and deserving of a few pints from Flo.

Itâs not about whatâs ours, itâs what is his. He takes everything I make and calls it his.
