It looks like he takes clothes out of the basket, folds them, but what happens next? I don’t see anyplace to put clean clothes that he can reach while sitting.
Get with the times, Earl baby! Some of us are still back there in the 2000s with the slang and not “hep” with the lingo of the present (like yours truly!)
In the late ’70s I was visiting my then-GF at her university; I heard one of her classmates remark that lunch that day was “pretty optional” (apparently meaning to convey that the quality of the food was suboptimal).
I will put that one up against “pretty random” anytime.
I would on the futon next to my late wife while she processed the laundry. I usually ended up with the clean clothes folded and placed in my lap. I know this sounds weird, but I miss that!

I’ve been told that there are people out there who wash, dry, iron, fold, and hang their laundry. All in one day!

I thought he was referring to Earl’s sock sorting.

That first panel is just begging for one of the late Al Jaffee’s ‘snappy answers to stupid questions’.
Something like, “There’s been a murder and l’m examining this laundry for blood stains.”
“Who’s murder???”
“Yours if you don’t stop asking stupid questions!”

“How contubrius!” (In High School, we made up that word and used it often. But it never widely caught on.)

My new pet peeve is “out of pocket” being used to mean “unusual”.

Struggling scientists have fruitlessly been trying to create true randomness for decades. The Electoral College has just about given up on them.

I’ve never heard “random” used like that before.
