One of the biggest issues with our system of education is that it is not interactive. Students have to passively listen to hours of information every day for 20 odd years. If you want people to be engaged and actually retain and process information, they have to interact with it, question it, apply it, make it their own, and not relegate activity to an out-of-class process otherwise known as homework.
Music was not that good for me either – I seem to be tone deaf and have trouble carrying a tune in a bucket. Unfortunately for my husband I love to sing and he has to listen – let alone when I played the guitar and the piano.
I liked the craft part of art class – and am a craft artist and embroiderer for fun and as occasional job – some craft shows and the like. (Many ribbons at our local 3 county county fair – for embroidery and sewing – also baking.) I demonstrate 18th century embroidery at reenactment events.
The varied sciences, writing, READING, history and such I loved!

The entertainer Bill Cosby holds an earned doctorate of education from UMass. To be a great teacher, you have to be a good entertainer.

If they limited the class time to about 30 seconds, they would pay attention.

In high school, I had a U. S. History teacher who made the course entertaining. I wish more were like him.

Not enough alternative schools available that teach life skills and trades. More funding for test taking instead.

A lot depends on the teacher and subject. Where I taught most of the teachers varied the classes to do more interactive activities.
