Novel approach to groundhog day ! ;-)

Phil has been declared fake news! Early spring!

So, if the groundhog sees his shadow there are six more weeks of Winter, supposedly a bad thing. But aren’t there always about six more weeks of Winter? Groundhog Day is February 2. Six weeks from February 2 is March 16 (or 17 in leap years). The Vernal Equinox is March 20 or 21, so I guess Spring actually starts a bit early if he sees his shadow, right?

And what does the ground hog have to say about when Winter will end? Yet again, what do his friends at the Department of Meteorology have to say? I’d suggest, about mid March (which is when Summer is supposed to end down here). But I could be wrong. As my curmudgeonly father-in-law would have said – “not necessarily”.
