There’s a blind woman who regularly comes to my gym. She does regular workouts (with the same trainer I use) but also does tap dancing. She’s quite good and I’m always happy when I can hear her practicing.

First we swiped the card. Then we improved them and were able to insert them. Now we can just tap them. I suppose next we’ll be able to just think the amount to pay. With AI who knows.

Tap to pay is great, but if they made the symbol a little, larger, more obvious, easier to locate, and its location was consistent across different PoS systems, that would be great. Some, you hold the card in front of the screen, some go to the side, some have to be held in front of the panel on a completely different plane. And when they scan, the screen should flash, “COMPLETE” so you know it isn’t still trying to read your card instead of leaving you in limbo while it runs the transaction.

I’d also like it if it didn’t ask me 5 times before it lets me scan the card: Pay > Are You Done Scanning All Bags and Items? > What would you Like to do? > Pay > How would you like to pay? > Credit card > Follow the instructions on the screen > Pick a payment method > Credit card > Scan your card now (whew!)

How about just letting me scan my card when I tap “Pay”? If I want another option, I’ll pick that one instead of scanning my card.

Lately, especially when I travel I tap my phone.

I don’t even carry my cards anymore. I just tap my phone.
