When I was in high school my family lived north of Chicago. I had a card at the library in the town next door. It was huge for a town of 20,000. There were also two good kosher delis there. I liked to take the bus and go to the library and get lunch at one of the delis.
All packed up and ready to hit the road in few hours. I like traveling but not to really cold/snowy places. I’m a California girl. Even here, in the dead of winter, I might wear a sweater or just a zippered hoodie. Packing for this trip was worse than usual; packing is my least favorite part of any trip. We rented a big SUV for this trip – a 2024 Jeep Wagoneer L. 1. Who needs a darn cooler in the center console? I’d rather it be smaller/narrower and have more side to side leg room. 2. The headrest is positioned to where it’s uncomfortable for me. Yes, it’s adjustable but I can’t get it to be right for me. As soon as we stop at the 7/11 for his coffee, I’ll just put the seat back and sleep. This thing costs just under what we paid for this house!
I still find myself thinking I need to call or text my sister about something. The same thing happened when my mother died. It took a long time for those thoughts to stop. The first thing I always did on a road trip was to text her“on the road again’ when we hit the freeway. This is going to be a hard trip for me.
It is 3:00 in the morning here in Wisconsin and still no new strip. So, here goes with the National Day “celebrations”.
February 1 is:
NATIONAL DARK CHOCOLATE DAY
NATIONAL GET UP DAY. No, it’s not about getting up out of bed. National Get Up Day offers an opportunity to share inspiring stories of perseverance. The day reminds us to pick ourselves up when we’ve fallen and giving it (whatever it may be) another go!
NATIONAL FREEDOM DAY. National Freedom Day, always observed on February 1st, celebrates freedom from slavery. It also recognizes that America is a symbol of liberty. The day honors the signing by Abraham Lincoln of a joint House and Senate resolution that later became the 13th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. President Lincoln signed the Amendment outlawing slavery on February 1, 1865. It was not ratified by the states, however, until later on December 18, 1865
NATIONAL PLAY OUTSIDE DAY
ICE CREAM FOR BREAKFAST DAY. I allow myself ice cream one day a week, but it’s on Sundays, not Saturdays. It’s something we did in my family as I was growing up. At some point, I stopped having ice cream every Sunday, but more recently, I started it up again.

Good good, keep her outside. Don’t let Annie near the door, she’s liable to invite her in for a cup of tea.

And what, exactly, do you plan to do if you get into the warehouse, lady? Try herding the cats? Good luck with that!

The library is a wonderful place, Jack. You should be thrilled to be there (even if you are really not there).
