I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones

Water Wars are what we experience out here in the Western US. It is a consequence of people trying to live in the deserts and other such hostile places.

The Water Wars started about 20 years ago, but most folks ignore it when it makes the news cycles. Corporations have been competing to buy up all of the water rights they can, and Texas water utilities have been caught side drilling on private properties to steal water which has even resulted in gunshots fired. Even Tom Selleck got caught stealing water for his avocado farm (all of the plants died anyway). It will only get worse with time.

Pentagon has said that climate change with the resulting migration and conflict over water is one of the top matters of global security.

It is coming, how soon? Don’t know but think about this…water levels in the stretches of the Ogallala (aquifer) underlying Kansas have dropped an average 28.2 feet. Thousand Springs in Hagerman, ID used to have water spilling from the Snake River aquifer a mile or more along the canyon wall. Now it is just a few hundred feet. All due to irrigation pumping.

While I could wax on the negative, on the positive side we are getting much better at desalination and power generation (which it requires) from solar, wind, tides. We might see oil product pipelines cleaned up and repurposed to bring saline water from far off shore to desalination plants and then uphill to people, farms & ranches…but don’t be too surprised if Billionaire Bros do it for the cybercurrency and AI ventures.
