The days of Mark Fidrych, “The Bird”. Detroit Tigers pitcher who used to fix the mound with his bare hand, talk to the baseball and played with so much boyish enthusiasm that you couldn’t help but love the guy. Sadly, injuries shortened his career.
Though I don’t recall it ever being mentioned in the Peanuts strip, Charlie Brown must be a pretty competent pitcher, considering how often the opposing team(s?) actually hit the ball.
That’s what I used to say to the ball when we played pickup baseball at work. I always got stuck in the pitching position because people could score so many runs off me.
