Calvin is a one-of-a-kind progeny - which is why I hope he never has any of his own.

How did Calvin get his pants up and zipped in the back … and not realize he had them on backwards?!?!?!? I guess he was just too busy thinking about how smart he is and not looking forward to all the idiots he was going to have to deal with today!!!!!

GretchensMom… I most of the times put my jeans on without unbuttoning them or unzipping them… Just pull them right up! Probably means I need new and smaller ones but hey until that happens I could potentially end up with my zipper in the back and never know it!

Was hoping to beat you this morning but had to get a load of washing started and the bed made! @LeslieAnne. What keeps your jeans from just falling off? Wish I was that thin. Elastic is my friend.

Progeny - prodigy… so close! Calvin didn’t realize his mistake even after Hobbe’s quip. I’ve made more word mistakes than I can count. The more you try to appear a super-genius the more chance of goofing-up. How embarrassing!

You are as subtle as Hobbes (is). Hobbes first punchline is in panel 2: “Most children are.” If Calvin had known (as at least several of our posters did, including you) that progeny means “offspring”, he probably would have been incensed at Hobbes for implying his mistake, i.e. that the correct word should be prodigy, not progeny. If Hobbes really meant “Most children are”, rather than all children are, could he possibly think that Calvin might be someone akin to “Rosemary’s Baby” rather than an offspring of two human beings (his parents)?

When I was a little boy I had a next door neighbor who worked as a mathemetician at the Institute for Advanced Studies in Princeton, New Jersey. After a number of attempts and accidents, it became abundantly clear that he simply was unable to drive a car, so his wife drove him whereever he needed to go for the rest of his life. His colleague, Albert Einstein, wasn’t able to drive either. Simply too mundane a task for those gentlemen. And Calvin putting on his pants? Piffle…..
