Walt may have survived unsupervised for the hour or so that Gertie has been away from his side. I’ve heard of cases like that. But if you others are right, at least he had a good long run.
Maybe not professional dancing, but it was probably the best workout she had in a very long time. If she accepts the offer, it will be an excellent choice at least for her physical well being.
I for one have enjoyed this story line. Gertie should have realize when she turned Byrd down he wouldn’t have a concert ticket for her. I got behind on gocomis and read past comments.
There be three [things which] are too wonderful for me, yea, four which I know not: The way of an eagle in the air; the way of a serpent upon a rock; the way of a ship in the midst of the sea; and the way of a man with a maid. Proverbs 30:18-19

Good thing, since she evidently left Walt for dead.

Too bad about Walt.

Don’t worry. We’ll find out what happened to him in, oh… about three months.

Walt died. And it took him long enough, you know?

Yeah, poor Walt’s already the oldest man in the United States, and there are only three other WWI vets alive anywhere in the world.

She has to choose between remaining with Mr. Walt or dancing in Byrd’s show? Oh what a choice.

If Byrd would just read the strip everyday, she wouldn’t have to fill him in on all the details.

Gertie knows how to turn a phrase to her advantage. Thankfully, it seems as though the good Professor Byrd is astute enough to realize that.
In the meantime, the best thing Walt could do is seek a replacement for Gertie…..

Poor Gertie has a real Karl Malden thing going in that 2nd panel.
Who is onstage now that the star is chatting with Gertie? Where are we?
