There are plenty of better jobs out there, Brad. There aren’t plenty of better girlfriends.
wiselad over 13 years ago
this TIME, Ann Definitely crossed the line, before it was conjectures of our part, and there was no definitive proof, I hope Brad quits, but is unlikely Greg will take that option

Why would Ann discourage a paying customer?

This thread better end with Brad getting recalled from layoff or there will be hell to pay!

Wow, I haven’t seen this strip get so intense in ages! I’m glad to see a good conflict bubbling. I know Brad and Toni will come out on top, but seeing how they get there will be exciting. :)

Brad should put Ann Eiffel in her place and quit WeenieWorld, but I think he is still too traumatized by his firefighting job-loss to act so decisively. I guess we’ll have to put up with an increasingly obnoxious Eiffel for a few more days until some big reversal happens….

I wonder how Ann would react seeing Bern?
9thCapricorn over 13 years ago
Brad is trapped – he needs the job and cannot tell his boss off. I’m pretty sure once he has a job – surely he is actively looking elsewhere while working at WW – he will flip the finger at Ann Eiffel and probably report her like Bernice had.

Brad: Sure, I’ll tell her. That’ll make my job a lot easier. Because when that gets around, you won’t have many customers left. So my job will be obsolete – nothing to clean up. Meanwhile, I might just as well look for another job RIGHT NOW. Hasta la vista, baby!
Rockabore over 13 years ago
They should really fire the colorist. What’s with the sloppy job on her lipstick? Did they just leave the white on there as a gag or something? But more to the point, I hope this storyline actually goes somewhere. I mean loads of commenters are saying “he should quit right here and now!” But that would bug me more than anything, when Greg leaves a story that has potential to be interesting then unceremoniously kills it.

TJ and Eiffel would make a great couple. Perfect for each other.

This is too much. Not funny, not realistic, just pathetic. A firefighter would have many options, including training for an emergency tech. Brad could easily train and qualify for a nurses aide, etc.

Brad will say…“I’ll talk to her about it.” Toni….will take care of the rest.

Elwood MAY be ‘desparate’ … but I doubt if he’s THAT “hard-up” !!
(I seem to remember that he’s worth MEGA-BUCK$$$? – Wonder if he doesn’t even OWN the restaurant? – - THAT would be SWEET!)

Place catches on fire (indirectly due to Eiffel). Brad steps in, saves the day, is reinstated with the Fire Department.

not to play devil’s advocate, but I can imagine I’d be irritated too if I had an employee flirting with and smooching his gf on the job.

Ms. Eiffel has gone too far. Wonder how Greg Evans will write the next few panels. Hope it includes some serious disciplinary action for Eiffel.
Chuck373 over 13 years ago
Poor Brad. So nieve. She does seem to be trying to find out how close they really are. He should ask “When I’m working, or ever?” It could still be innocent. She could possibly just be looking for Brad to have less distractions from his duties. Or she could be looking for a nice clear playing field. And management does reserve the right to refuse service to any customer for any reason at any resturaunt in the nation. Maybe tomorrows strip will clear up Anns intentions.

All these comments and only one mentions the real crime. Brad’s refusal to accurately describe his relationship. If Toni knew this, she would, rightfully, dump his butt fast.

The problem with “cussing out” your boss and leaving, is that what gets on your employment record. Makes it hard to get the next job. Best to just leave.

It’ll kinda suck when Ann’s house gets struck by…er…“lightning” and Toni’s crew is busy with a cat stuck in a tree.
glkailsik over 13 years ago
Can’t get the reply button to work, @Chuck373While it is true a restaurant reserves the right to refuse service it is not true they can do it for any reason. The reason must be legitmate. You can not, for example, refuse service to an individual because of their race. Try it and see how fast you are in court. There are laws.
glkailsik over 13 years ago
Forget to say the “you” is not personal, rather just some random restaurant owner/manager.

She’s kicking out a paying customer! A paying customer who is doing a better job at lifting Brad’s morale than anyone else there! If there is one thing I’ve learned about life as we know it, it’s this: People talk! And once people start talking about this, let’s see Ann “Awful” explain why people have taken their business elsewhere…
ladywyntre over 13 years ago
Look, it’s irritating and probably illegal, although Ms.Eiffel (shouldn’t call her “Miss,” Brad, really) could say she’s just giving him advice, not an order. On the other hand, I don’t know that I would want my firefighter-SO to come visit me at my janitorial job. As far as putting up with crap on the job goes, this is unfortunately not even near the worst I’ve heard about.

Quite honestly I hate the direction the whole Brad story line has gone. I read this comic for entertainment and to lift the spirits. This whole story line is a downer! It was good at least in fantasy to see someone who was doing well with his job and with his social life…Someone needs to retire at the firehouse and Brad needs to get called back!!

I’ve followed Luann for years, because it’s alternately charming, agonizing, captivating, and socially relevant. Eiffel makes for good storyline fodder, because she’s the epitome of conflict – but I truly, truly hope that this arc ends with the abusive bully being dealt a definitive death-blow (metaphorically speaking), because there are far too many people like this in real life, and employees should not have to deal with their destructive management styles.
In real life, sometimes the bad guys win. In the funnies, we hope for happier outcomes.
DeGrootingforLuann over 13 years ago
I’m more concerned about what today’s strip says about Brad and Toni’s relationship. This may be a real test for them — how will Brad share this news with Toni and, more importantly, how will Toni react? Ann may be inadvertently forcing Brad to really consider how important his relationship with Toni is and determine what exactly is he willing to do to safeguard it. WOW. . .very smurfy!
JanLC over 13 years ago
So let me get this straight. You missed a mandatory (look up the meaning) meeting and were fired for it (the manager’s privilege). So in revenge, you cussed him out, threatened him and then bad-mouthed his business to the point that you claim credit for putting him out of business. All because you chose to miss a mandatory meeting. Remind me never to hire you for anything!
Callie Ray over 13 years ago
With a boss like Ann Effiel, who needs enemies? Besides, her decision to tell Brad not to allow Toni into his workplace is 100% stupid and uncalled for.
RaulYbarra over 13 years ago
Well, work has been keeping me pretty swamped so I haven’t had much time to post. Thought I’d check in and see how the list has managed. Well, I still can’t see the strip from work, thought the comments and ads come through fine. The signal to noise ratio from a few poison pills are still souring the place. The camaraderie from the old Comics.com site is still missing. It looks like I’m going to stick with my current arrangement: getting my strips from Arcamax and chatting on either Greg’s Luannalyzers list or on the Luannatics forum. I’ll miss my old comics.com buds that don’t post in either of those locations, but maybe I’ll check back in a few months and see if anything has improved.Later, Raul

Exciting women this Ann Eiffel: pretty, evil, intelligent and strong!
Rock-me over 13 years ago
The thing that occurs to me here is: the Brad who worked here before is not the Brad that works here NOW. He’s a MAN. He’s put his life on the line many, many times. I would be surprised if he didn’t just laugh, genuinely amused, at her pettiness and treat her (respectfully, as a MAN would) like the immature, petty person she is.
falcon_370f over 13 years ago
Those who predicted that Ann Eiffel would get between Brad and Toni, you were right.
Rock-me over 13 years ago
I say this because, though I am not a fire-fighter, I’ve dealt with life and death situations on a regular basis. And now I find that very little (besides life and death situations) actually gets me upset. In the big picture (which I’m guessing Brad and most firefighters/police officers share) this kind of crap is pretty non-threatening. I doubt Brad will lose the mature poise he’s gained over the past year or so. Or at least, I’ll be surprised (and a little disappointed) if he does.
chazandru over 13 years ago
If Brad doesn’t quit or create a plan to expose Eiffel’s corrupt management style, it is hard to see how he can keep his relationship with Toni or his honor. It would be hard to read a story where Brad lost his moral courage.

I don’t see the sexual harassment thing happening. Ann could just be driven to make Weenie World the best Weenie World in the whole world of Weenie Worlds.

Remember, Brad has a history at WW. Those files are probably still around. If AE tries anything too out of line those records could be used against her.
I expect Brad was a pretty good worker in his prior employment there, given his ehire.

I’m sure Brad could find a better job, or at least a better boss.
Sheriff Mordecai Premium Member over 13 years ago
Rock: It’s called a white highlight on a dark glossy surface, per Evans’ spec. But the colorist still should be fired and banned from future employment in the real world, become Ann’s makeup consultant, do them lips right. Problem solved. If anything should be white it’s her teeth, but these things are probably done quickly.
