Brad doesn’t play poker much, does he?
9thCapricorn about 13 years ago
Toni sure picked up the raised hairs on Ann….and a very clever way to put Ann in her place by saying she is a customer. She knows how to stand firm without getting into a cat fight. Ann knew she couldn’t fight Toni, BUT I believe she will try to get at Brad another way – she just realized getting at Brad via his girlfriend isn’t the way to go.
Rockabore about 13 years ago
You know at least from the drawing, Ann didn’t seem to be all that phased by Toni being here. I doubt that’s the case since Toni is implying on the inside she’s pissed, but if it weren’t for that I’d think Ann realized she was way out of line and was making up for it; after all she’s the bad guy so she’s learned nothing and will likely never learn from anything. Either way,I have a feeling Ann isn’t above hocking a loogie in Toni’s hotdog before serving it to her so she better watch out!

Hmm, I don’t want to read into what Toni said about being “way past upset”. So I’ll leave it at that and wait for tomorrow’s strip.

Brad understands guy fights. They’re easy. Talk, talk. pose, bluff, punches. Females fight differently and Brad needs a trainer if he’s to survive… Enter Toni and Lu the trainers… Maybe Toni is the cut man.

In no disrespect to straight, bisexual, or homosexuals, but I think Ms. Eiffel is a lesbian. She did this to Bern and Zane before back in the year 2002 and she fired ZANE, not Bernice. She’s also a, “Women rule the world with an iron fist” kind of gal.Just saying. I wonder how it will pan out in the end and see if my thoery is correct.
Sisyphos about 13 years ago
Poor, puppy-like, eager-to-please Brad is way out of his league here. Ann is a Player, but Toni has had a lifetime of toughening experience. Ann will take a (metaphorical) swing, but with Toni’s fast pitching, Ann will strike out. I stand by my opinion: Toni will make mincemeat out of over-confident Ann. It’s just a matter of time and place for the showdown now.
slug_queen about 13 years ago
I think if I were Toni, I would order a big meal, then up-end it into the trash can in Ann’s sight.
Brad is in a bad spot here though- given the economy, I can well understand his anxiety over having a job- any job. I think Toni needs to make very clear to him that her affection for him is not dependent of him employment status. The trick is making him believe her.
Hank1938 about 13 years ago
I think Ann will attempt to pit Brad against Toni and take delight in doing it. She is (in her own arrogant mind), The Queen Bee. But she will end up the bug into Toni’s windshield and never see it coming!
SusanSunshine Premium Member about 13 years ago
OH yeah…. dragon lady has not begun to fight.
She’s not saying “I’m so sorry; have a hot dog on me.”
She’s saying "Brad, you disobeyed and you put me in a bad light. I don’t like that.
So I’ll prove you a liar…. and then you’ll pay. And pay."

Ann will keep Brad around – and for the same reason that my cat likes to play with the mice he catches before he eats them.

Rockabore about 13 years ago
I could see Toni causing a stir over Brad’s predicament, I could also see Nancy pitching in to help, but Luann? Not likely, she’s never really given much of a care about Brad’s issues. She seemed to find the whole Ann Eiffel issue as funny at his expense, interested by the thought of Brad foolishly eating his words about how he could “Handle Ann Eiffel.” Now, Bernice on the other hand was the one that showed genuine concern and warned Brad, even though he didn’t heed her advice; I could still see her offering advice for Brad to take now that he is in hot water.
x_Tech about 13 years ago
Then again, “Gamesmanship” might well be applied as in "Breaking the flow " which Ann appears to have done quite well.Regardless of what WE think of her.
Chuck373 about 13 years ago
Okay. I’ll take Toni’s word for it that Ann is WAY past upset. I’m wondering why. Is she upset because Brad didn’t pass on Ann’s message? Is it because Toni is pretty? Is it because Ann wants Brad? I’m a guy so I’m lost in this girl-game here.
jgjackson about 13 years ago
I think Toni’s referring to herself
Chuck373 about 13 years ago
Brad can QUIT any time he want’s. Or any time he decides that he is more than a clean-up boy at WW. And as a clean-up boy, I don’t think Ann can think of any worse things for him to do than his job. Really – how can his job be worse?

“Brad’s the LOSER here???” He’s got two BEAUTIFUL women about to battle for possession of HIM, and HE’S a Loser?I THINK NOT!Wait. Toni will say, “I don’t need your charity.” and Ann will respond, “Then get out – you’re not a customer – you’re interfering with my employees – and don’t come back!” THEN – the fight!

I am in awe of Greg’s appreciation of the power posturing games that Women play.Poor Brad, he is only a boy. I have a few decades up on him, and even I am slow on the uptake on this sort of thing. And Women typically have contempt for Men not noticing what’s happening – the same way that cats have contempt for dogs.
Ottodesu about 13 years ago
Speaking of posturing, Ann is doing quite a lot without even a word. Scary, sort of.
Ottodesu about 13 years ago
Great comments today, most people get it IMHO.Well, actually most of the Women, Men less so. OK, Men are typically going: huh? what happened there? Don’t expect a physical catfight in public, Guys. Power is most potent until you have to use it, and both these women are keeping their powder dry.One reason I have female friends (some very young) is that they can tell me all the undercurrents that I miss. Often, they can tell me where I slip up, even though they weren’t present and I didn’t even know I had slipped up! Nice Guys are SO easy to abuse, they don’t even know it is happening.

Man, I never thought I’d see the day when a comic strip would actually show a guy’s balls literally get removed from his personage in one fell swoop, but Greg Evans has done it.

Brad’s problem is that he is playing the part of the appeaser. His thinking is that the absence of conflict equals peace is erroneous. Unfortunately, we have seen this time and time throughout history.

Brad needs to seriously think about what he’s doing. Sluggish economy or not, he’s selling out the woman he ostensibly loves for a horrible manager and a job at a fast food restaurant. I hope Toni doesn’t let him off the hook for this; he needs to grow up.

You score keepers are missing way too many points. Plus one to Ann for subtly reminding Brad he’s taking another unapproved break, plus one for asserting herself by calling herself the manager, plus one for greeting Toni in a welcoming way (the opposite way she told Brad to treat Toni, which makes Brad look like a liar), plus one for putting Toni in debt to her by buying her dinner, and plus one for making Brad be the one to take her order (he’s cleanup, not an order taker). Rockabore’s right, Ann will do something to Toni’s food. Then she’s going to get revenge on Brad somehow. Toni scores for not leaving and for asserting her position as a customer, plus one more for realizing Ann is being crafty. Brad? Where to begin? Throwing your girlfriend under the bus is just so wrong. And minus one for being clueless. I think the score is Ann 5, Toni 3, and Brad -2.
Govi Premium Member about 13 years ago
How did Brad lose his job as a fireman? Cutbacks? Poor performance (unlikely)? How?
LinTX about 13 years ago
Gah! I just realized I missed two more points! Add two more points to Ann for her choices of when to come over and when/how to leave. Coming over emphasized her “Brad?” comment by implying it was important enough for her to be present, and leaving while talking to someone is another posturing action—it disrespectfully implies she’s too important to linger, and that they’re not important enough for her to look at or stay by while talking to them. I disagree that either Ann or Toni get points for their outfits, they were already wearing them before they knew they were going to have a run-in with each other. And after further review, I think Toni’s “customer” comment is worth 2 points. So…Ann 7, Toni 4, Brad -2.
jenbrown1017 about 13 years ago
There is NO WAY any manager would be allowed to wear an outfit like that!!! No matter what business she’s running!! Toni has a right to be pissed, not just at the rude comments, but at the obvious flirtatious nature of Brad’s boss
Elentol about 13 years ago
Now Eiffel is being nice to Toni… Maybe she wants to make Toni think that Brad doesn’t want her there… she’s can be all nice and sweet when she’s around, but she’ll probably threaten Brad once she’s gone. This could turn into a serious fight between the two. I have a feeling that Eiffel is going to cause a big mess before she’ll be punished! :O
bamboodan about 13 years ago
Any of you that think ‘amends’ are on Ann’s mind sure don’t understand how women REALLY work. Or maybe you’re of the it’ll-always-work-out-if-we-just-hug-and-make-up ilk, but bottom line here, Brad will be on the losing end. Ann will make a play for him to oust Toni. Brad is, after all, sort of manish. He’ll be flattered, compromised, and Toni walks in. He’s dead meat.

Ann has the hots for Toni – and that’s perfectly okay as long as I can watch! Greg needs to do an adult version – it would be very popular!

I think under your system, Brad might go -3, as i feel sure that despite Ann’s “my treat”, if Toni reads the “between the lines”, no big deal if she orders something small, but if she orders something big, is very likely that Ann would take money out of Brad’s paycheck to cover “Ann’s treat”

I sense a “love triangle” Ann Eiffel wants Brad to love her, and tries to coerce Brad through her authority over his job. Brad loves Toni, and Toni loves Brad. Ann Eiffel sees that and it drives her jealousy, making her efforts to coerce Brad even more severe. Hopefully the VP of Weenie World will fire her, as soon as Brad complains. If Brad complains and gets fired, he can sue Ann Eiffel right out of her uniform.

Greg won’t have Toni mention the thing about being unable to accept gratuities for the same reason Greg never had Brad get any severance pay or unemployment, or have him take a fireman job at a nearby city or with an EMS. It’s a selective reality comic strip. We only get details or accuracy when it fits the plot. That’s why we still haven’t learned more about TJ’s gift Brad refused.
NightOwl19 about 13 years ago
Regarding the point system – I’m not sure it works if not everyone is playing the game if the game is won before it even started. Toni has Brad’s heart’s now; she will have it at the end of whatever game Ann Eiffel is trying to start. Ann Eiffel can try to have absolute control over her limited sphere, but as soon as Brad gets a job that is back on his career path, then she will become irrelevant. Also, Toni isn’t playing at anything – she is the real deal and is simply standing up for herself as a strong-minded adult will do. If Toni (and Bernice) help clue Brad into what Ann Eiffel is trying to do, her manipulations don’t stand a chance of succeeding.
Trails4GMZ about 13 years ago
AE will probably change Brads work hours making it difficult for him to see Toni. Nice Tat Toni ( :

So, after taking Toni’s order (which she might order Brad a pair, since seems to be without any), will Brad avoid Toni while she eats, or see this as permission to talk with Toni while she eats? Stay tuned…

Toni wins. She shows up on Ann’s turf, stands her ground, and yes, accepts the “free” meal. I hope she takes a few bites, and throws it away – “it tastes bad”.

Brad’s been getting a lot of flak about being clueless and spineless in his attempt to keep a job – and I agree Greg presents him as such. However, Frank has also been characterized the same way, and occasionally shows some real smarts. So, lets wait to see what happens during the next few days. I think Toni and Brad will continue as viable BF & GF on Saturday. The victory may not be won, because most of us feel the arc will go on with Ann Eiffel for several weeks or months.

@mordock999;THIS IS JUST A comic strip!!There, does that feel better? And I also remind you, coffee makes it worse – coffee makes almost everything worse – I know this not from experience, but because all of my life I have been getting headaches when I drink it. Until one day I calculated the amount of caffeine in some of the codeine pain-killing medications I sometimes have to take pretty regularly. (In Canada, many of these do not require a prescription, whereas naproxen does.) It came out to the equivalent of many cups of coffee per day. hmmmmmmmmm…. can it be that I am prejudiced against coffee. Who, me? Immmmpossible!! I said Immmmpossible!!
muffin05 about 13 years ago
Ann is an unkind boss. Still, Brad is right in asking Toni to back off a bit. Sure she has a right there as a customer, but she should just go in, place an order, and give Brad a quick “Hi, see you later.” She shouldn’t hang aroung and try to socialize.. Especially when Brad is a brand new employee.
LovesAmos about 13 years ago
Brad should grow a back bone He can do what ever he wants on his break and lunch. He should take the lead and have Toni come in at those times if they have to see each other during his shift. I thought Brad had grown up during his time as a fireman. But this all reminds me of high school.

Begging everyone’s pardon (sort of), but do any of you actually WORK for a living? :P
RinaFarina about 13 years ago
@lintx;:“selective reality” is a good expression. I will try to remember it. (I love words.) It describes the situation exactly right. I had always gotten mad at people who wrote stories in which reality was only what they said it was. I thought it was just laziness on the author’s part. But now I see there is another, better, possible explanation.
RinaFarina about 13 years ago
@mojitobaby; I was trying to be funny – I guess I should have put in a smiling face. My sense of humour doesn’t always go over with other people. Sometimes, when they are standing there looking numbly at me, I have to say; “Joke!! J O Q U E!!” That, people always understand, if not why the original statement was supposed to be funny in the first place. 8^} ok??

After all, there are many jobs in which people do not actually work in any sense of the word. Here in Quebec (Canada) we have more civil servants (government office employees) per citizens than anywhere else in North America. Are they doing a good job? Does a bear shit in the house? So what is the consequence? We are very highly taxed to pay for this. Oh boy, are we taxed.
