The last panel where Dick gets some advice on marriage – well I thought I had married Miss Wright, when I was married – later I found out her first name was “Always”
G’morning, everyone!I’m really enjoying this version of Tracy’s ‘origin.’Unlike Chester Gould’s version, Mike and Joe have time to develop the characters realisticly, including showing Tracy working up through the ranks. If I remember correctly, Gould had Tracy joining the force to catch the killer of Tess’ father, and – shazam! – becoming a detective almost overnight, which Gould had to do to hook the readers. One question – was the big guy in the past few strips Big Boy Capice?
Down memory lane we gently sailTo revisit with an old Tracy taleTracy’s a rookie walking the beatLooking at all times, both spiffy and neatBut dark clouds are looming up aheadLeading to mayhem and the threat of bloodshedA rogues gallery of no-goodniks we are to seeIt is such a treat for you and meNow we see a nefarious yobSeeking a hostage for the Fletcher-Collins jobA winsome Tess is the victim in his sightWill she be taken without a fight?Tragedy and grief will soon rear its headLeaving behind those broken and deadBut for now things are shiny and brightAs Tracy prepares for a special nightDinner and a quiet talk with the chiefWith a promotion and raise is his beliefBut events will prove to be not to his likingAs the baddies this evening will be strikingSo much happening, in so little timeSuch is the life, when your fighting crimeTracy, you’ve got a long life aheadTimes filled with joy, times filled with dreadWe’ll be with you, until the end of your runBecause Joe and Mike are making it so much fun.Thank all, for the comments the last time I posted.
Heads up, Tracy fans! I’ve been reading DT since the fifties (including comic books). I’d like to recommend the Tarzan strip to all you folks. It’s another great adventure story!
I could wonder how shooting it out with two bank robbers could lead to a detective’s position, but why kvetch? I suppose we’ll hear more about Dick’s background later.
Actually Arkham has been around since the 70’s. It was originally Arkham Hospital. Then the name was changed to Arkham Asylum. The Elizabeth Arkham Asylum for the Criminally Insane
And if you like Lovecraft and can stand a comic that is much more violent (and gross) than Dick Tracy, maybe you should search for Lovecraft Is Missing. People who DON’T like gross should avoid it. It is very well drawn, though.

Tracy in the shower?! And he is looking young and skinny. I’m guessing Jerry is a married man.
coratelli about 13 years ago
Tracy was skinny.
Mdstudio about 13 years ago
Yes, it was Big Boy..It’s great to see Dick looking skinnier than we’re used to seeing him — just like he did back in 1931.

Wonderful poetry as always, wndrwrthg.
Wonderful storytelling and art in the strip as well.
puddleglum1066 about 13 years ago
Great art. Unfortunately, the TMS colorist seems to think the Police Department shower is run by the Tidy Bowl man.

WW: Welcome back, it’s been a long time. Another good one as usual only this time you don’t have to throw darts. Keep up the good work.

Perhaps someone could clear up this matter. Did we ever get to see the son of Gravel Gertie and Bob Oscar Plenty? And if not, why not?
HannoX about 13 years ago
@puddleglum1066I thought the same about the shower.

I don’t have a picture of Attitude Plenty, but I do have a pic of Bob Oscar Plenty when he was a baby.Bob Oscar PlentyIsn’t he just adorable!

I expect DC swiped the name Arkham from Lovecraft precisely because of the associations with the name.

Sorry. Wandered off topic.
It kinda hurts to see Tracy this happy when we know what’s coming.
