Squirrel Sled design
Boy: I could tell right away it wasn't going to work, but I was having too much fun not to finish it. Frazz: I always suspected that's how Freddie Mercury wrote "Bohemian Rhapsody".
What I’m wondering is when Jef Mallett drew this? How old? and who saved it? Or is it by one of the kids he knows? Love the lined paper and the millions of happy squirrels
One way you might get it to work is to have a sled pulled by cats in pursuit of it. Which is especially cool, because one way you might get a cat sled to work is to have a squirrel sled for the cats to pursue.
My only problem with this strip is the imputation that somehow Bohemian Rhapsody doesn’t “work.” It may not adhere to the “verse-chorus-verse” form, but no creative artist worth the name ever let formalism stand in the way of a masterpiece. It’s “songwriting as collage.”

I am delighted to be young enough (in my heart) to think that makes perfect sense.

I agree with Frazz on this one. Bohemian Rhapsody is the perfect example of what so many writers suffer: “Failure to Launch”.

But if it was successful, the Squirrels would work for peanuts

Looks more like something DaVinci would come up with, instead of aGalileo, Galileo, Galileo, Figaro.

And a sled with wheels…doesn’t that make it a wagon?

I think it’s patterned on a dog sled. Take a look at the driver on the back. Wheels are simply a variation for snowless areas. :)
Oh, and the famous Flexible Flyer sled had wheels, I understand.

The Squirrel Sled wouldn’t work in real life, so it MUST be just fantasy. Question answered.

Funny… the squirrels look beautiful in the picture (very well drawn), but he didn’t draw himself very well (especially the hands). LOL!

Put a dog IN the sled and let him bark and the sled will go. It will go straight up a tree, but it will go.

Another group of Jef Squirrels. The best in all cartooning.
