I like the way that police business (non emergency though) slipped back in to temper the celebration without ruining it. Classy, but that is what we have come to expect from our guys.
Ok, so we have confirmation that Bonnie Braids will show up soon, we’ve seen The pouch, references to The Mole, Patton’s wife, Sam’s family, Joe Tracy has made an appearance (which is who i was most excited to see.. last i saw him was when he was born lol) so how about appearances by B.U. Tiffil, Perfume Plenty, Lee Ebony, Mark Adonis (wasnt that his name?), maybe Sue Reel and Art Dekko, Torcher (i dont remember if he died and his body was never found or if he went to prison), Haf and Haf would be great too.. and his ex girlfriend Zelda. Did someone say MUMBLES was shown recently? He was one of my favorite Tracy villains… and does JOE JUITSU exist in the strip or just the cartoon? lol (Anyone wanna see Diet Smith and MAYBE Vitamin Flintheart too if he’s still alive?)
Yes, I looked up an old reprint comic I have. He was introduced as Spike Dyke, zany band leader. He was modeled after the real Spike Jones, who, I guess, was a band leader who used comedy and special sound effects in his act.It turned out that one of his prop pistols ( in the story, not the real guy) was used in the commission of a crime.
I agree with others who have commented here. Spike was originally called Spike Dyke, not Spike Smith, and was indeed modeled after Spike Jones, the band leader who did some classic routines. Don’t know why the name change, but hope this is cleared up soon.
Just wonder if the call that Pat was referring to was a lead onto Putty Puss and company? I do hope that they can have this evening of family & friends with out a violent interruption.
Maybe Spike Dyke is considered “politically incorrect” in todays world. Heck, even the Looney Tunes DVDs I have include disclaimers about content, and I used to watch the same cartoons on Saturday mornings in the 70’s as a kid!
Of course there is a Jewish holiday in which Gentiles are in invited to attend. The same device in last panel was used when Haman was to set the date to eliminate the Jewish people.

Spike Smith? Wasn’t he originally Spike Dyke?
Sisyphos almost 13 years ago
Any resemblance between Spike Smith and any other leader of a zany band who has a common, one-syllable last name is purely intentional….

@Tarry Plaguer So funny, so well done, and – in part – so politically incorrect. Thanks for sharing it.

I don’t quite get the art in the last panel. Is Tracy visualizing Spike in his glass, or what?
RedsFan323 Premium Member almost 13 years ago
I think he sees Spike in his glass, and it looks all the way back to 1947!

The Spike Dyke/Sketch Paree story was nuts! You have to find it and be sitting down when you read it! Bringing back Spike is great.
