Anyone else read Heinlein’s “Number of the Beast”? Stuff like this always make me think of the definition he gave in that book for the degree of literacy a man needed before he could consider himself literate. His own native language, ancient Latin or Greek, and able to speak and read at least two foreign languages. Still important skills in todays information age.
As far as I could tell from Google translate (and how I could transcribe the old German) “Pleasure schooner, godlike spark, daughter of Elysium. We enter fire imbibed Sensualyour Zeuber”
Okay, I was having fun belting this out loud (I’ve sung this as an alto in choirs many times), but I am stumped by “Rolling in the Deep”. Not familiar with the song, but the change in typeface helps. Can’t find fraktur anymore.

The lyrics, except for the interpolation of “Rolling in the Deep,” are from “Ode to Joy,” as is the sheet music (Beethoven’s 9th).
