So that’s how it works! Fritz Ann takes the bad guys into custody and somehow they manage to “break out”.

Blackjack can surely cop a plea to insanity, if he and his defense attorney so chose. But that could backfire. Maybe just accept the federal bank robbery rap and do the time. BTW, glad to see that the gang surrendered along with their looney leader.

All’s well that ends well…Blackjack has accomplished his goal, Sam is smoking again, Tracy made a new friend. I think Blackjack is going to have a hard time recruiting a gang next time, though…Tracy’s hand in panel 3 should be brown, he is still wearing gloves…

Maybe Fritz Ann can take out her fantasies on BJ (hmmmm) on the trip back. He’s grinning like he’s way ahead of us!

Poor Tracy lol. Still, with the big Mr Crime war on the way, I wonder if Blackjack could come in handy.

As I said a few days ago, he’s Tracy’s answer to Bat-Mite, the pal determined to make your like exciting.BTW, Fritz Ann always looked (to me) like actress Nana Visitor, from Star Trek: Deep Space 9. (Okay, it’s 5 am, and I’m myopic.)

Scuttle, I doubt that I can agree. Dick never once hid in the bushes blubbering about how he was going to die, and we never once gave the artists a hard time about how Dick was going to have to throw out his pants after this arc because no laundry would touch it.

I likewise do not agree that this was inane. Yes, Blackjack was an odd duckie all right, but i see furtrher story potential for him….most DT universe villains dont care who they hurt or how….Blackjack had strict rules about civilians and DT himself….remember, he was a mix of Robin Hood and Dillinger, which meant that he cared about his public perception as a robber who ‘looked out for the people’…by going after banks that had swindled people. (Remember, in one robbery, he told a customer to keep her money, as he didnt want it)

i liked this story, but th eending seemed a bit rushed to me. still, maybe fritz ann will stick around for a while and call in the fbi to help ferret out the mole in police hq AND help wrap up mr crime and his cronies.

When they make the next big budget DT flick, they can cast Garret Dillahunt as Black Jack:http://www.esquire.com/features/the-screen/garret-dillahunt-1009

“With all due respect to the authors, this was without a doubt the most inane story arc since the bad old days of Locher.”-“With all due respect…???? That’s how you start a profoundly disrespectful comment? Everyone has an opinion … sometimes it’s better to keep silent.

Well, I hope everyone enjoyed this light hearted tale. Because in a couple of days, the MR CRIME wrapup begins and it is deadly serious. I count at least 6 villian deaths.

I just have to believe that Fritz Ann is a cop with a fun and good attitude. I also believe she is just toying with Sam to get a reaction. Everyone’s reaction to her about Sam is fun & laughter. The DT team is the best!

However you feel about Blackjack (and let’s not forget that Gould himself did many a lighter-hearted tale with comical villains), I think it might be a good time, with the new team in place for more than a year, to call a moratorium on criticisms of Mr. Locher.

    Re yesterday’s strip:

The Hall of Fame panel on Eliot Ness generated a lot of commentary..Yesterday was my wife’s and my anniversary, and, since I had the day off, we spent a very full day together, so I didn’t get to a computer until fairly late in the evening..I did post a fairly lengthy response to many of the comments people made yesterday, but since it WAS so late in the day, a lot of you, including some who offered comments, might have missed it, which is why I’m mentioning it here today.

Tim,.I understand your point just fine..But the fact that people have a right to be mean-spirited and insulting doesn’t mean they SHOULD be..There are rights. There are responsibilities. And members of civilized societies usually understand that they are two sides of the same coin without that patently obvious fact having to spelled out in the Bill of Rights..To needlessly rattle on about how lousy someone’s work on this feature used to be, when he’s been retired for a year, and when the point’s been made ad infinitum already, diminished the discourse on this board..To insult other members of this board diminishes the discourse on this board..And diminishing the discourse of this board is irresponsible and does this board no good.

I think whether one disliked Mr. Locher’s Tracy or not, the HUGE difference between his work and the current team will continue to be a topic of discussion for the foreseeable future.’

oh, and as for freedom of speech, i researched it and thisis what i found (as it would pertain to the strip of course)

Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, adopted in 1948, states that:

“Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers.”6

Today freedom of speech, or the freedom of expression, is recognized in international and regional human rights law.

The right is enshrined in Article 19 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, Article 10 of the European Convention on Human Rights, Article 13 of the American Convention on Human Rights and Article 9 of the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights.

Based on John Milton’s arguments, freedom of speech is understood as a multi-faceted right that includes not only the right to express, or disseminate, information and ideas, but three further distinct aspects:

the right to seek information and ideas; the right to receive information and ideas; the right to impart information and ideas.

International, regional and national standards also recognize that freedom of speech, as the freedom of expression, includes any medium, be it orally, in written, in print, through the Internet or through art forms.

This means that the protection of freedom of speech as a right includes not only the content, but also the means of expression.

Regarding free speech:.I have no power to keep anyone from expressing their opinions. I claim no such power..Certainly I have no control over this board..So I’m at a loss to see how encouraging some level of compassion and civility in the exercise of our freedom of expression is somehow a manifestation of out-of-control governmental intervention..But my understanding of the Bill of Rights is clearly not up to the sophisticated level of those noted Constitutionalists, Tim and Scuttlebutt.

Perhaps I’ve misread everyone’s comments but I thought Jim Doherty simply proposed that we table one discussion. He did not insist. He did not demand. He merely suggested. He does not deserve all the invective being hurled at him.

Ho-lee! I wanted to comment on how much fun Blackjack was as a madcap villain, and it’s all First Amendment up in here.

Personally, I think both Blackjack and Fritz Ann are brilliant additions to the Dick Tracy universe. I had fun watching the gentleman robber, but not as much fun as watching Sam squirm a bit. I’m glad to see Blackjack’s contribution to the Fedora Wall, but not as much as the upcoming Mr. Crime arc. Mr. Curtis, Mr. Staton, and the rest of the team.. I await with an anticipation I haven’t felt since my fifth Christmas.
