Geez, girl, it’s not even worth flirting with him. Just lie and say “no” and call it a day.

Uh, that was exactly my point. The last time anyone in that family went anywhere (school trips don’t count) was when Luann won a trip for two to Hawaii. Frank, natch, stayed home.

Back when I was in school, I hated my parents coming to the bus station to see me off at the end of the vacations. Once I was seated in the bus, and they were hanging about waiting for it to start, it became incredibly awkward. There was nothing to say; all the goodbyes had been made and everything discussed already. So it was just awkward shuffling with each side hoping the bus left as soon as possible, yet not able to say it out loud.

Kind of like Evans and this story line.

Luann’s memory-Shrine to Quill sugest that “maybe” was an accurate enough response. Romance at long distance is difficult, but not impossible. The question is, would both of them think it worth the effort (one alone will not do)?

He’s said goodbye about three different times now. Talk about grandstanding! Enough already! We get that you’re leaving. Stop flogging Luann’s heart and leave, or tell your Da that you insist on staying in the States.

Fact is, this is only disappointing if Luann’s behavior is being idealized. That’s how I prefer my comics and literature – to depict good examples to live up to – but many authors prefer to depict sordid (or stupid) realities. Hopefully this arc will end in an edifying conclusion, but life doesn’t always.

It’s a nice ending with Luann’s self respect intact. If you want a laugh a day, read “Monty”. Meddick is always pushing the envelope of funny.

For all the comments here about how they dislike this story line, I’m amazed any of the commentators bother to continue to read the comic.

I for one grew up reading Luann, I relate to how she feels. I think this was a wonderful ending to a wonderful relationship. They have good memories to hold. It’s emotional but not traumatizing. Luann has truly grown. She is heartbroken by Quill’s leaving, but not behaving dramatically like she did when Aaron Hill moved. She’s learning from her life experiences and we get to be a part of that journey.

Even If this teenage romance goes no further, Luann will always have fond memories of Quill. He was handsome, fun, kind and honest. She had a major crush on him but somewhere deep inside, she was always prepared for him to leave. I love her “maybe” answer…she said it with a wistful look and it fits. Maybe Greg will have them back together in another arc….right now I think it’s time for an update on the happenings at Weenie World.

I thought the whole episode was – well – charming. But then, I’m an old geezer born during WWII. What do I know?

Ah, ya, um… Sounds like a fantastic dream sequence for Luanne! Great ideas— fine imagry! A storyline of a dream like this could easily occupy two, possibly three weeks. If the Sunday installments would be incorporated, there could be some extra scenes. I can just visualize Luann as she wakes up, and realizes that she has had her worst nightmare.

Just thinking about those who felt the need to disrespect the clothing the father wears and the fact he didn’t go to Hawaii when Luann had a ticket for two.-Picture the last two pieces of fried chicken. You want it but you know two other people you love would also like a piece. What kind of person would you be if you insisted on making one of them do without just for your own pleasure?-Same thing with only two tickets. Unless he had money to spend on himself, he could only go if others did without.-Now let’s consider his boring clothes. If he wore the very latest and most expensive styles, would that improve his life or the lives of his loved ones? me not think so.-So which shows more love for his loved ones? Wasting money on his selfish and futile desires or letting his loved ones waste it on themselves, knowing it will make them happy? If he loves them, he will find happiness in their happiness.-And for those who think it is a false set of questions, fine, go ahead and pretend like people don’t have to make those types of decisions. I suspect those who have never had to make such questions just always picked the choice which benefited themselves or has an infinite amount of chicken and money.

Reminds me of the prelude to the song “Don’t Let It Bring You Down” on the 4 Way Street LP:

“Sorta starts out real slow and then fizzles out altogether.”

Are all of these dead-end do-nothing relationships some sorry reflection of the author’s life? Real life is not like this.
