GENTLY, Brad, gently! You know she doesn’t want to be ‘pushed,’ just keep letting her know you’re ‘interested’ and that you’ll be there when SHE decides it’s time.

@brian fink and .. – I still open my wife’s car door and we just celebrated our seventh wedding anniversary. If my daughters ever bring home a guy who doesn’t do that they will be leaving solo.

I see a pet in Toni’s future. A trial “baby” that is a great source of tension between Brad and Toni. They can get married when the dog behaves.

Greetings -This may sound like a cliche but it is true - I grew up in the South. Young men/old men and anywhere in between open doors for ladies, stand when they enter the room, assist them with their chairs in restaurants, help them with their coats (on/off) and help them out of vehicles. My children still say ’ma’am and sir’. That’s probably not taught anymore but it is proper etiquette.

Brad take the hint, its a test … at the event ask Toni which pet she wants to adopt, initiate the adoption, it proves your ready to commit for long term love. Plus if Toni never makes up her mind and least you’ll have a loyal pet.

I used to say I wanted a daughter but wanted he to be between ages of two and twelve. The idea was that she already be housebroke but not yet grouchy.-It turns out they don’t come that way, so I had no daughters, just the two sons.-What’s worse, THEY didn’t come housebroke either and we had to keep them even when they were in middle school. (A trying time indeed.)-I loved nearly every minute of it. (Those who tell you they loved EVERY minute of it have poor memories.)

I have always appreciated a door opened or help with a coat etc. However I walk fast and move fast, so have adopted the ‘whoever gets to the door first’ rule. it has always seemed ludicrous for me to get to a door and then stand there while he catches up. I’m not interested in shuffling along, he can keep up or not. Or hey want me to slow down? Hold my hand, or talk to me. I hold a door if someone is right behind me. If someone is struggling with a jacket, sweater, coat; I help. And when a passenger, have always leaned over in the car and at least unlocked the door for the driver. These are common courtesy and really, the gender of the recipient just doesn’t matter.

    @ Night-Gaunt49

I agree on both counts. Last year, everyone in my section of the marching band had to wear neck ties, and we’re wearing bow ties this year (Including us girls).

I hold the door for anyone who needs it or is close behind me, and try to remeber to thank the person who does that for me, but if a guy tried to open the car door for me, I would get annoyed. I don’t know if guys still do this, but I think its ultimatly the woman who decides if she’s going to put up with it.

Opening the door for your significant other is a sign of affection and respect for her. My father told us boys that 50 years ago, and it’s still true today. If a guys just honks the horn for her to come out, she should tell him to hit the road.

“No, not the inane and clumsy. Since both genders are involved “fire fighter” and “police officer” sound better and just as sensible.”-I’ve usually used the term “fire fighter” but I just realized how violent that sounds. FIGHTER. Perhaps, “fire suppressor”? No, that sounds somewhat repressive, like someone who suppresses bad memories or thoughts or the desire for freedom.-“Fire quencher” might do it, after all, quenching a thirst is a good thing. Quenching heated steel improves its properties.-Hmmm, still seems too narrow even if no longer sexist and violent. Still not considering the many other things they do such as provide first aid after wrecks and falls, manpower assistance for medical calls, tree clearing after storms, cat removal.-I just don’t think we can come up with a sufficiently inclusive term to cover all they do in the course of their work.
