I hadn’t really thought about it, but the two towers being done as simple rectangles in today’s strip also look like a pair of one’s. As the 11th anniversary of that terrible and tragic day, it serves as a dual message. Kinda neat in a way.
I recently saw a political ad here in Connecticut in which a candidate advocated hiring more police and firefighters. To this someone made sniped, “just what we need, more union workers.”I was furious. I responded that he may see police and firefighters that way, but I see them as the first responders, true heroes who without hesitation, run INTO danger to save total strangers.I also told him he did get one thing right —They are “just what we need.”God bless them all, every day.
First Moon Maid and now poetry by wndrwrthg? It just gets better and better! :) Seriously, that is an amazing piece, wndrwrthg, and well-deserving of all the kudos. Thank you for such a fine tribute to all the heroes who died eleven years ago today. I remember well all your great work during the final year of Locher, and how it made coming to this page so fun. Loved your recent ode to Moon Maid, too, and look forward to another one about her sometime. In the meantime, you can study these pics for inspiration.
Gotta add, just found out our old friend Jerry “The King” Lawler suffered a heart attack Monday night. He’s resting in a hospital now. As always, the hope is for a full recovery. (If you would like to see “Jerry King” again, I’d suggest starting with the March 3rd strip.)
Thanks for the tribute, Mike & Joe. And thanks for the awe-inspiring verse, WW. And to all the conspiracy kooks, thanks (in advance) for staying out of my way today. I don’t want to scar up my knuckles today.
(always a good sign) and then several more minutes later they said he was responding to the doctors shining light in his eyes, and that his heart was beating on its own. the silence in the crowd for he majority of that show was eerie.. i’m glad that the ydiscovered what happened and i’m sending best wishes for a speedy recovery to THE KING! jerry lawler is truly a legend and most definitely one of a kind!
Requesting that everyone here take a moment of silence to pause and reflect on the sacrifices made on that horrific day. Thanks to you all for being here.
Very nice piece of work gentlemen et. al. I sent a letter to Go comics regarding some flexibility in these story arc lengths. I got a quick, very polite response, and the issue may be addressed. Maybe if more readers would respond, the guys could get some leeway. These intertwined arcs are okay, but they leave out a lot of the “chase” material which made Gould’s stories so outstanding. Hopefully, inquiries will have some impact. Keep up the good work though.
not to sound insensitive but, i wonder.. will there be a “memorial strip” for december 7th this year, and every year afterwards? i know that the wtc attacks happened on “american soil” and that at the time pearl harbor and hawaii werent part of the states.. but still…. a LOT more people were lost that day, and yet it seems to get relegated to the background. yeh i know its been over 70 years, and the wtc attacks were only 11 years ago, but lets put things into perspective. i have no problem with september 11th becoming a legal holiday as it was being bantered about years ago, but in my opinion they damn well better make december 7th a legal holiday before then.

A wonderful remembrance, Mike and Joe
I know i posted this last year, I hope you do not mind.
They were there to answer duties call
That day we saw the twin towers fall
They knew the job was full of danger
But it was theirs, to help friend or stranger
To answer a call, they could not pick and choose
Though their lives they might even lose
Hearth and home, they had to leave
To do, in what they believed
A quiet morning, to be had by some
Nothing much but routine to be done
But when the alarm sounded, they sallied forth
To those soaring towers, both south and north
The first responders, from throughout the city came
All knowing things would never again be the same
Smoke and flame, high up in the sky
No time to hesitate, no need to question why
Flame and smoke poured from above
But no-one had to give them a shove
Into the building they went with all their gear
Things had to be done, no time for fear
Fire, police, EMS’s too
All knew the job that they had to do
Up they went, seemingly without a care
People were in dire need of their help up there
Through the flames, smoke and dust
They did the things they knew they must
Then came those terrible, ominous sounds
That heralded the towers crashing to the ground
The dust and smoke are all settled now
In prayer and remembrance our heads do bow
For all who perished on that fateful day
We honor the price that you did pay.
