There was a cute one of Avis trying to get in line in place of Ruthie’s grandma.

Not to try at home in France, nearly 70% of us have an ‘actual career’ as well as professional mother and caretaker. That lady witch would end up with her broom in a painful place. Go, Ruthie, Go!

On the flip side, there’s nothing that restores my faith in humanity more than the person who says, “You only have one item, go ahead of me”.

Seen people like that trying to get on South West Airlines ahead of their seating number. God I love the look on their face when they are sent back to wait their turn. I mean doesn’t the world know how important they are? Yeah right.

I often do that in the store – let somebody with only one item go ahead of me, but not if they’re rude about asking. I’d have cut her off with the cart and told her what she could do with that bottle of vodka. On the flip side, I also get rather annoyed with people who get it the express lane with full carts of groceries, or get in the express line and then want to buy cigarettes or lottery tickets or something else that requires the clerk to leave the checkstand. If I managed a store, the express lines would not sell lottery tickets or cigarette. Those bozos would have to go get in the regular line – and the checkers would not be allowed to answer a telephone if they were already waiting on a customer!

What I hate is when a cashier will tell you “You have more than X items but I’ll ring you up over here” (in the X items or less lane) and then someone gets behind and makes a comment.

Such presumption! Ellen already has some of her items on the belt, and is a business owner!

… anyway, I think it’s rude to ask. Always thankful when someone offers, tho. And I try to offer when possible.

Nobody cuts in front of me. I must have that crazy-eyed look. But if they did, I would love it. I would taunt them mercilessly. “What’s it like, being so much more important than the rest of us? I bet you drive an important car, too. Should I let you cut in front of me in traffic too? Your boss says pick up his dry cleaning while you’re out.” etc.

It never ceases to amaze me at how so many people have a sense of entitlement and self-importance. They seem to presume that everyone else must be subservient .I like to wear my T-shirt that says: WARNING ! Sarcasm is only the First weapon in my arsenal.

Rick Detorie once pointed out that most of his characters outside the main family are rude or otherwise annoying. Makes me wonder if he hates most people.

Night-Gaunt: It was originally, “As snappy as a bitch with her first litter.” They are generally overprotective and will snap at even family members coming too close. Dogs learn to adjust with experience too.

Why is the 10-29-2012 strip being shown today? A little late to mention Halloween.

Once at a baseball game I was standing in line at a food counter when a guy just pushed his way to the front and placed his order. As he was leaving, I gave his tray an uppercut that sent all his food and drinks flying. When he turned to attack me, other people in line formed a protective ring around me like a herd of angry yaks. He backed off, and the other people in line chipped in to pay my tab.

I have a habit of trying to let people with one or two items(no cart) go head of me (I’m retired). But, let me offer, don’t ask me. or try to just go ahead.

Good for Ruthie. When I shop one time I had for two me and my mom not a whole lot and the cashier took me in 20 or less items she wanted something to do. I have let shoppers with very little ahead of me.
