20 yrs ago I met one of the Catholic priests in a bar/grill (of course this little bar on Saturday lunch the kids outnumbered the adults 2 to 1). He had a Hawaiian shirt and shorts on. Granted the church was 2 blocks from that bar and he had just finished mowing the lawn, but still itâs just kinda a wtf.
From a real priest: Hearing confessions does not mean that we make any effort to remember all the sins.
And, while we have a âdrinkâ at every Mass, itâs pretty much a sip. One per hour or two. Not enough to get a buzz.
+++++
But it is amusing how Rose assumes everyone in the Saloon is there for nefarious purposes, and headed to Hellâexcept the Pastor, who must be doing good.
@bmonk; au salut! It used to torture my pore mother and âher sideâ of the family when Iâd hang around with Catholic kids and go to âtheirâ functions. A lot more adventurous than the cold, creaky, somber Methodist gatherings that preached a scary hell and damnation if I didnât âget right with Godâ and all..I do believe that the Monks of Europe invented/preserved the best recipes for wine, brandy (burnt wine) and some pretty darned good top-shelf whiskies !
The word âwhiskeyâ comes from the Gaelic words uisce beatha, which mean âwater of life.â And being IrishâŠ. truer words were never uttered.SlĂĄinte !
Iâm a teetotaler, and the last time I went to a bar with friends, I order the fresh squeezed orange juice. This was as pricey as the beers, so the waitress was happy. More bars should follow that example. Other options could be fermented health drinks such as kombucha or kvass.
