There’s the Mopey Pete we all know and loathe! The same skinflint who proposed to Mindy with an engagement tiger.

And it’s now a tribute to a business that failed, Funky, but don’t let that stop you from fleecing Mopey Pete. In the real world, Pete should have investigated why Montoni’s went out of business, and if people really want the old name to remind them of why they stopped eating there. Businesses don’t succeed by repeating mistakes.

Well, there go the delightful storylines I was anticipating where Ed would bring Ralph and George for a special lunch at “Mopey’s Pizza” and then attempt to pay for the meal with an old athletic sock filled with pennies.

To acknowledge your grasp on reality, why not call it Shakey’s?

Tributes are always nice.

“Montoni’s” and “restaurant”: two words that should never appear in the same sentence.

Because “Mopey Pete’s Pizza” probably isn’t going to cause a stampede of business.

Why is Funky talking to Mopey Pete like he’s never met him, or like Mopey Pete has no idea of the history of Montoni’s?

Symbolism. It’s like operating a comic strip without changing the name.

A famous (in New England, anyway) real-life example:
