I sure miss trying to figure out the Roman numeral copyright date in old movies in the second they stayed on the screen. This was back in the days before freeze-frame was readily available. I got pretty good at it. Another useless skill from the 20th Century. :)

Horace just invented a new Roman numeral: Z, for 1389!

So … does z = 1388 or 1389?

Roman numerals are enough to put me to sleep without the sheep.

I searched for historical events of the year 1388. I came up with:
Apr 9 Battle of Näfels; Glarius Swiss defeat Habsburg (Austrian) army.
Aug 5 Battle of Otterburn, a border skirmish between the Scottish and the English in Northern England.
Then I must have dozed off. It really works.

I think “Z” is the Roman Numeral for Bajillion! … or is it Bazillion? … I get the two confused.

Z means sleep as in ZZZZZZZZZ not to be confused with an insect buzzing.

Next panel: alarm clock rings, because Horace counted so many sheep that now it’s time to wake up.
