That bulding in panel two looks like a manufacturing plantâpossibly chemicals, such as pesticides. WEHRLI might stand for âWe even hunt really little insects.â
They might have viewed DâBuckworth as a common parasite, and did away with him, using high-tech chemicals that leave no trace.
But, I could be wrongâŠ.
I think DâBuckworth is distributing out-dated $1,000 bills.
If D-Cubed vowed revenge, that makes him some kind of suspect. If heâs really dead, his hypothetical killer could use that threat in a self-defense case. And how did anyone steal his expertise? Voodoo?
Wehrli Enterprises? Is that a pun on âWeâre lyinâ prizesâ? Or are they an aviation company that makes Wehrli Birds?
I think that device in panel 3 is a fax machine. And, I think Dick believes it is designed for sending secure faxes. I recall one person who attempted to send a private fax by first folding the page. Perhaps Dick is experimenting with private fax technology.
The cell-phone conversation with Sue Doko from last Friday and Saturday continues, - enough time for her to slip into a fresh outfit - or for the Artist to âforgetâ what was drawn last week.
But Itâs a useful indicator for measuring the dead slowPACE of the tale.
Macy is torn between talking to Ms. Doku and his constant constipation, I guess thatâs why he clenches his teeth and fist so much. But if I know Macy (and we ALL do!), the smell will tell!
Ah, but the REAL question is: Is Wehrli Enterprises one of Brozmanâs magical morphing buildings that changes its appearance every day, or will he simply copy and paste this one drawing over and over?
Notice that itâs dark and there are stars in the sky behind the WEHRLI building. So either itâs on the other side of the world, of DLâs trying to tell us itâs night time in Naperberry. Maybe thatâs why Sue Dokuâs changedâsheâs getting ready for her big night out on the townâŠ
a couple years ago, when I first ventured to the DT comments section, there were a lot more comments from a lot more commenters âŠ..the common complaints then, as now, were about the plot inconsistencies , errors and poor artworkâŠ
the same mistakes continue to be made over and over and are pointed out and commented on over and over and nothing changes and everything continues.
I guess that it can be comforting in a world that is ever-changing to know that SOME things stay the same.
or maybe I just miss the comical exchange of comments prompted by dear old Mattâs fiery , unchanging defense of his friend Locher, and his disdain for anyone who disagreed with him
Note: There is a Wehrli Road in Naperville. Itâs on the South side of town, youâll find it crossing 75th Street West of Rte 53 and East of Main Street. Itâs been there for as long as I can remember, I never did find out who or what Wehrli stood for. Just a guess, but probably one of the original settlers had that name.
Sgt. Larry Wehrli is also the name of the cop in the urban legend about a guy who confuses a Dustbuster (vacuum cleaner) with a Fuzzbuster (radar detector). See:
http://www.snopes.com/autos/law/dustbuster.asp
If it turns out they make either of these products in the Wehrli factory, weâve got our answerâŠ
Meanwhile, the true identity of the tattooed corpus in the morgue has become clear: itâs George Clooney, who was bumped off by the critics after the release of his new movie, in which he sports a big butterfly tattoo on his back. Case closed!

Yep, Sue Dokoâs hair mandibles are definitely twitching and growing as she reacts to the danger of police scrutiny.
Relax Sue! Dick Tracy will believe pretty much anything you tell him!

Sue looked better as a flying saucer stewardess.
Too bad they omitted the scenes of Sue changing her clothes. That mightâve woke me up since this strip is so BORING!

Panel 2: WEHRLI is an anagram for ILRHEW. Big clue.

Panel 3: Once again the mystery object returns in the background. Fax machine, dot matrix computer printer or an orgami facial tissue box?

Thatâs a good profile of Tracy in panel 3, but what is he doing with his thumb (?), taking a pulse in his neck (?).
Itâs the sort of depiction that should fill SimonPenn with exctasy and quickly inspire a 4 paragraph post of âpassionate praiseâ.

Itâs clear that this is one of Locherâs MYSTERY stories.
He particularly LIKES them because it gives him a âPASSâ, an EASE from having the trouble of âdesigningâ a worthy looking Dick Tracy Rogue !
Same âreasonâ why Mr.Pops the Circus clown (2009) was never âunmaskedâ or given a real name.
Quality creative time saved for what comes first - his Editorial Cartoons.

Panel-Panner said, âPanel 2: WEHRLI is an anagram for ILRHEW. Big clue.â
Ah, but donât forget, in the Dick Tracy world they often use backward spelling. So I think our real clue is ILRHEW.
