Holy Holdup! The Black Piranha’s arch-foe, the Cinnamon Knight!?Whoa, did I pick up one of those pain patches Measles dropped…? Everything looks so strange…Morning, VistaBill, margueritem, Black Pirhana… (I gotta get some sleep…)
Wah? Yesterday, Piranha; now the Cinnamon Knight?! Is that anything like the Cinnamon Bear (beloved radio icon of Christmas Seasons Past)? Did the circus just come to town? Did an asylum just expel all its inmates? Is a movie being filmed downtown? Hmm?
Why so surprised by masked heroes, or have we forgotten the Scarlet Sting? Not the first time the strip has played with the idea of super-heroes. Just the first time the characters have been “real”.
I don’t want to be a troublemaker or anything but, personally, I’d prefer that DT fight all-new original grotesques, pursue them several months, then watch them die a painful death :P
So I was just saying to myself the other day that one of the things Gould use to do was the arrow pointing to “things” in the picture. So today Mile and Joe had to give us an arrow pointing the spearfish gun. Nice Gouldian touch….
JINKIES! i almost missed the description balloon that pointed out black p. was carrying a spearfish gun. i thought it was a harpoon. dont get me wrong, i LOVE comic books (and i am sure a good percentage of us here do as well otherwise we wouldnt be here) but this is getting silly, even for dick tracy. one good thing to look forward to is that mike had said, i believe, in the yahoo group that blackjack is going to make a comeback i think in the spring or somewhere along those lines.. doubleup too! i wanna know what this whole “people in crimefighting costumes” storyline is all about but the over the top silliness is dragging it down a tad. i suppose i need to put on my “1960’s batman television show rose colored glasses” to enjoy this storyline
Just want to clarify – I’m not complaining! The Black Piranha isn’t that far removed from the rest of Tracy’s cast of characters, especially Abner Kadaver (one of my favorites), and the various grotesques that have been Tracy’s mainstays (Pruneface, Flattop, Broadway Bates…).Actually, the idea of Tracy chasing a masked foe – one who can’t easily be picked out of a line-up – is an interesting idea.I do like the fact that her mask isn’t designed to make her sexier, but scarier (not many of them in comics). Can’t wait for tomorrow’s strip!
seems like SOMEONE doesnt get the whole idea of events happening at the same time in different places. the whole ludicrous black pirahana thing could be happening at the same time as walt wallet being at police HQ with tracy and vitamin. and MMM unlike many others in this board (Which, by the way i find VERY disturbing! lol) i am not “breathlessly waiting another moon maid appearance” and constantly dragging it up. i figure she’ll show up when she shows up. quite honestly, its rather… “creepy”… the way that supposedly grown men are acting over a COMIC STRIP CHARACTER. after i read the posts concerning moon maid, i feel the need to scour my eyeballs… some of y’all REALLY need some sort of therapy.
Some random observations:Several folks have wondered if this is a movie promotion or other staged event. That crossed my mind, too.
Some have called this silly. I agree, it is a little silly for Dick Tracy, but there are several stories I can think of from the Gould era that started out either silly, or just light-hearted, then suddenly took a turn into darker, more serious events.
1.Junior’s first romance with Model Jones went from sweet to awful.2. Blow-top and his mob seemed like inept screwballs until they blew up Tracy’s house.3. The second appearance of Mumbles started out with the introduction of George Ozone’s “wild boys”, and they WERE downright silly, but the story soon turned to a very clever murder and hiding of the murder weapon.
It would seem that the current strip staff are the ones who are getting away with murder. In my opinion, they are playing fast and loose with the DT tradition since there is very little police work employed in the Batman style hyperbole.
yep, the Model Jones story went from one of the happiest ones Gould did, to an ending so depressing it stuck in your mind for days, and kind of made you wonder why it had to end that way…..no more of those, please…
As much as I hate to, out of principle, I have to agree with Da Man…… (and a side note to him – thanks for the photo! You DO look a lot like Matthew McConnaghey!)
It’s really very funny the way reader are responding to the last 3 days, with the appearances of Broadway Bates, his shadowy brother and now the Black Piranha. In the last 18 months, readers have been crazy about the strip and Team Tracy (myself included).Scenes with an alien hottie with electrical powers prompted mad love from most readers (with some dessension). But — include a character in a costume, and within 3 days, half the readers threaten to quit! Suddenly, Mike & Joe are terrible. These complainers are acting like sports fans – you’re only as good as your last game.Come on, everybody – let the story develop! And lighten up!
I have a membership with the Dick Tracy Museum. I was browsing there this morning and I was amazed at how many of the original villians created by Chester Gould did not die in the original storyline. I’m aware that Moon Maid was killed off when Max Alan Collins took over the Dick Tracy strip from Chester Gould. When are we going to see the Moon Maid storyline continued? How many newspapers currently carry Dick Tracy?

Guten Morgen y’all.
Her face wears a sardonic grin
And she sports a dorsal fin
To heist the jewels she does seek
In a body suit that’s oh so sleek
But in her plans there is a hitch
Now isn’t that just a …..
The Cinnamon Knight spoils her fun
Perhaps he’ll hit her with a tasty bun
So warm and sticky right from the oven
Hey! I was here first, quit your shoving’
With some coffee or perhaps some tea
Such a treat for you and me.

I expect Cinnamon Knight is Vitamin Flintheart, though he’d be more suited to the role of CK’s butler.
