“The Philadelphia Experiment” allegedly an experiment done during the Second World War. Where a ship and it’s crew disappeared and when it reappeared the crew had both physical and psychological problems!
A little search-engine work on the Philadelphia Experiment shows that this alleged (i.e., completely made-up, wacko, UFO-class) Unified Field Theory application to make the destroyer-escort U.S.S. Eldridge disappear and/or teleport from the Philadelphia Naval Yard in 1943 is a popular and oft-retold and embellished hoax. But if anyone could make it real, it would be Diet Smith and his team! Carry on, lads!
And might the name “Project Blue Image” be a nod to the U.S. Air Forces “Project Blue Book” that studied UFO data from 1952 to 1969? Or maybe the rock group Blues Image who’s big hit was Ride Captain Ride in 1970? (Tight song!)
Research and Development at Diet Smith Industries is robust. If it is “Top Secret” it must be audacious. The moon equipment may be “all in the past” at Smith’s, but I suspect the Lunarians left Moon Valley in their own Space Coupes. Time will tell.
if i had a clue as to what “The Philadelphia Experiment” was… MAYBE this would interest me. As it is, I’m going back to my bowl of Cookie Crips cereal, Nudge me when something interesting happens ok?
All I can say is, this latest experiment by Dietrich may well be a way to tie in Moon Maid – and perhaps get back to the space era!.And, maybe, if we’re going to go back in time, perhaps we could pick up the real Mysta Tracy while we’re at it…
I remember when Brenda Starr “lost” and later found her daughter Starr Twinkle living with a family of bounty hunters in a South American jungle and Winnie Winkle her husband Bill in a jungle too. Maybe Annie is in a jungle someplace.
Here’s my theory: when Sparkle goes into labour, Honeymoon will go off with Dick and Oliver and she will find Annie and Sandy on a deserted island with Robinson Crusoe and Friday.
You said: “However “The Phantom” does have flash backs too.”-—————-True, especially if you mean the historical adventures of previous Phantoms, such as the recently finished story set in the 17th century.
It is very subtle, but the “body language” of Oliver Warbucks in panel 2 is very reminiscent of the way Harold Gray would draw him in the original LOA – usually while in a pensive, thoughtful mood. Gray had his characters thinking out loud while pacing around quite frequently – that’s what it reminds me of today.
So, Diet Smith has created a sort of “time travel machine” could that be used in the search for Annie? That’s a very science fiction-y idea for this strip but it’s an interesting idea.

Now would be a good time for Diet to ask Warbucks how his Lazarus project worked out.

This will probably end up involving Mr Am’s ‘Alley’. Who am I kidding. We all know we’ll see Alley Oop when this thing works. :D

I thought the Philadelphia Experiment was Allen Iverson.

If I remember correctly, Mr. Am had a friend named Valentin the Roamer, who had a time machine. With it, Annie visited Atlantis.

I really hope the story doesn’t go into time travel. Save that for a science-fiction strip; maybe a spin-off with Mysta?
