Oops – Fritz Ann’s outfit works, but not her story. There weren’t female FBI agents in the forties.Of course, Prof. Kenyon doesn’t seem to realize this; his mind is on that goulash he’s cooking. But if any of his “assistants” hear…

There had been women working for the Bureau of Investigation (which become the FBI in the Thirties) before Hoover took over—he didn’t think they were up to the rigors of the job.

Sam and Annie probably went and got some proper attire. They are the only tow who appear to be timeless. Wonder what Tracy looks like?

Alaska Packard Davidson (1868–1934) became the first female Special Agent in 1922, at the age of 54. She only served for two years before being asked to resign by newly-appointed Director J. Edgar Hoover. It wasn’t until 1972, shortly after Hoover’s death and the passing of the Equal Employment Opportunity Act, that women once again joined the forces of the FBI

I’d gladly provide my direct email to anyone willing to notify me when something IMPORTANT actually happens in this storyline (like.. when its over!)

Axel’s not (entirely) stupid.. he saw the plane flyover twice already, his lackey swears he heard a dog barking, axel even said he think’s he has unwelcome visitors, the silos now know that ollie gotbucks is in town (and THATS certain to get back to axel) and now fritz ann and sam are becoming visible… very poor planning by tracy’s lil gang.. they are being way too obvious for a group thats “planning a surprise”

i hope the final confrontation comes at the train station tho! ;)

Maybe Sam and Fritz Ann broke into a ladies clothing shop and lifted some duds for her. After all, in the very tiniest of towns, there is always a shop that has the latest female fashions in the front window. For all that matters, maybe Fritz Ann had a few silver certificates and bought the clothes.

No female Feebies in the 40? You expect accuracy in this arc? Are we still in the 40s? Sam now an Associate? Thrilling questions

where to get 1940s clothing would have been an issue for everyone in Simmons Corners, including Tracy, the nurse, etc.

There are places you can get such items, made or off the rack. Including from show biz.Sure, I get that. Probably any good costume shop would have them. But my point was, how did they know they would need them before they arrived on the island? Someone else suggested they got them for her once she was on the island, which would have been difficult in the time frame, but not impossible, I suppose.

“COMMUNICATIONS ?…”“I think you mean Edward R. Murrow.Murrow, Walter Cronkite, and a lot of other journalistic legends became familiar voices reporting on the war on the radio.TVs existed in ’44, but were rare. Radios were everywhere. Dan Rather was born in 1931, and was a front line reporter in Viet Nam !”

You’re Right ! My apologies ! Thanks for the correction !

I do tend on occasion, to get my LETTERS ‘mixed up’. Only recently - ALEX for AXEL. ;- ) And possibly, to the ‘mild amusement’ (?) of some ! ;- )

But no harm, I mean well.

I recall Dan Rather, newscaster on CBS - ‘rather’ well. Seemed to take himself seriously (on occasion, too seriously?) and later he became well known as the Host of that stations nightly News Cast

One night, near the end of his run, he featured in an ‘MEMORABLE’ performance ! In hindsight now,one he might later have regretted ?

On that evening, CBS had carried the Women’s Singles Final at Roland Garros (the French Tennis Championships). With American Star - Cris Evert (who later won) was playing,(likely,1985 or1986?) and the match ‘ran on longer’ than anticipated. Actually, about to encroach on Rather’s prescribed - News Tme slot.

Someone in ‘authority’ had to make a ‘CALL’, Scrub the Final with an American (‘Rights’ – for which they’d likely paid - ‘Big Bucks’)? or ‘Scrub/Delay’ the News Cast (?)

The “decision”, did not go down well with Rather, and with much theatrical outpourings he stormed out of the studio, and the building, crossed the street, apparently to have a Beverage (?)

Astonishingly, much of his physical, hyper reaction at CBS that evening, was carried LIVE ! This viewers eyes ‘popped’ at the ‘performance’ ! So marked and ‘emotional’, few viewers (if any), could forget it !

Later, now calmer, but still somewhat irritated, I recall - he returned to give an abbreviated version of that nights news.

Can’t help it. But the same way I REMEMBER Flattop, that exaggerated recall of Dan Rather’s - STICKS with me !

Syd, we’ve seen Axel on the phone many times -————————————————————————

    When ??

You must have read that Strip of July 12 many times ?

As there IS one, seen in the Silo’s home on that date, (only one) I couldn’t find another displayed in Simmons Corners strips*!* ? And it was a late 1930’s WALL telephone, with that old ‘hand ringing’ switch on the side. Back on the 12th, Mr.Silo’s seen hanging up, while telling Annie - the owner of the Weekly paper had called (we can assume that’s Axel), and that he, also had a similar device.

But sadly. it’s one looking ‘technically’ incapable of calling anyone (relative or friend) OFF the Island, I.e.ON the Mainland.

The latter being part of my wider point on receiving outside “Communications” or “Information” ? And the Town’s, puzzling lack thereof.

“There must have been some thought of this when the decision was made to do this crossover. If there is no interest in Annie, why do this crossover? However, if this crossover generates interest then perhaps the “old” property has a “new” future. I don’t necessarily say that a new Annie revival will result from this but I still believe it is an audition (or test run) and who better to do it than the team who not only revived Dick Tracy but have won the Harvey for two years in a row for that old continuity strip genre that nobody cares for anymore.”-————————————————————————

Who better to *DO it ?*

SOLID Thinking !I’ll easily BUY into that !!

With that Movie following - a useful, further ’kick-start -* but even with the considerable talents of Mike and Joe . . .

    My view . . . A steep hill to climb !

“As I understand it, Mike and Joe had always wanted to draw an Annie story and they got permission to do it. If anyone could do it, I’m sure they could, but I wouldn’t want them to shift focus away from Dick Tracy thereby resulting in two mediocre strips rather than one excellent one.”-——————————————————————-

    Pragmatic ‘thinking’ there, Neil !

Better, ONE Great Loaf ! ‘Concentrate’ everything on Dick Tracy !

Fritzie’s 40s outfit could have been borrowed from Ma Silo; they’re not the same size or shape “now,” but Ma might have had some older outfits in her closet that would fit with a little pinning here or there. And it’s the hat that really tops off the outfit (pun intentional).Despite Professor Kenyon’s reluctance, I expect that Fritz Ann and Sam will manage to hustle him off, clearing the deck for “action” against Axel and his gang.
