Mumbles (emerging from the stairwell, I assume):“Rocket! The coppers are headed this way!”
The positions of the players are about the same as in the list I gave yesterday, but Mumbles has made it to the 4th floor. I’m guessing that the other two brothers are elsewhere on the 4th floor, patrolling.
Meanwhile, Venus and Apollo are talking to each other and Méliès is somewhere else, but I don’t think he escaped and left them stranded. I’m thinking that he’s elsewhere patrolling the 5th floor.
Apollo looks awfully nervous and shaky. I hold he can handle the “.50 caliber monster.”
Looks like I guessed wrong but I still have Melies to prove me right :) @Neil Wick, your “floor plan” is holding… and I believe that is the way it will be. Rocket is on the stairs, now with Mumbles and the other brothers are on that floor. Melies gang are on the fifth.
Early morning greetings to all East Coat readers/commenters.And late night greetings to all West Coast readers/commenters.-——-NOTE TO ALL: Most times I will be posting later in the day. and I have changed my avatar (yes, that’s really a recent photo of me) and expanded my name (Ronnie ‘Starman1948’ Thompson).-——-Have a prosperous day my friends.
Looks like Apollo is getting nervous… whoever gets hit with that will likely end up in the cemetery. Those vest the cops are wearing will not be able to stop the bullet.
I’m betting either Apollo has that gun jam because he can’t hold it straight, accidentally blows away a friend rather than a foe, or suffers an injury trying to fire that cannon. Oh and I’m also betting he dies based on his comment in panel three.
Mumbles is panicked. He won’t shoot straight, if at all. Rocket looks seriously professional and has some automatic firepower to match Tracy and Sam’s (I think it’s meant to represent an Uzi, probably the 9mm version). Up a floor. Venus has a short-barreled revolver of some sort (almost certainly a six-shooter, .38 or .32, or just possibly .357), and Apollo, noticeably wobbly and lean of frame, is intent on using the .50 Desert Eagle, which (as others have noted) he does not seem able to handle safely. He is indeed more likely to injure himself than to ventilate any of the cops (though in steadier, more practiced hands, the .50 would penetrate most defensive body armor). Things could be getting much wilder than in the initial engagement.. And there are the unseen players, including the other two Rocket brothers and Méliès, not to mention Mr. Bigg himself and the ambiguous T-Bolt (if she is Lee Ebony, she will need to show her true colors soon, to prevent Mr. Bigg’s escape). And, last but not least, will the junior detectives find themselves caught in a cross-fire, or taken hostage?
Jail is not the only option for Apollo. There is the hustle-bustle of the emergency room, or the cold, eerie quiet of the morgue. Mumbles, so fast he ran away, will live to mangle enunciation another day.
Hmm. Nervous Apollo. .50 Caliber pistol. Somehow, I imagine this happening to Melies…
I don’t know why the gun manufacturers even built or how they sold one. It’s more dangerous to the shooter than what’s out front. Most ranges don’t even allow them on the property. I think ownership of them is tied to short “other things”.
Well, with that excellent profile of “body architecture" by Staton today - on Venus, it sure gets my Vote, for her to Live On, and ‘come back’ occasionally for ‘displays’ !
Connoisseurs here of “those things” might even wryly observe - that she has “memorable” (abnormal?) ‘pecs’ like (say) - one Vladmir Putin ? One might think, she come a tad more “robust” than Joe Staton’s other women ?
.Even Vista Bill here, might have a passing ‘temptation’ of doing a ‘trade in’ with Rikki (?)
Apollo’s hair, already morphed into tighter curls and now reaching to the tip of his nose , seems here to voice his last retreat ?.He may have a powerful Gun, and like ammunition, but does he have a ‘clue’ on how to use them ?Deservedly, and if for nothing else beyond his foppish appearance, his ‘non performance’, with those “blanks” in his CV call for a final exit performance !
For those that may care to, they could speculate on the reasons why Bribery bothered with forehead *- "B"’ branding, for these two ?Easy conclusions, left to the imagination ?
Gweedo, Neil and othersJust read the late comments from yesterday.Sorry my name change has caused confusion (I seem to spread confusion like Johnny Appleseed spread, well, you know…).When I joined GoComics and took the name NightShade09, I didn’t realize there’d be a NightGaunt49 here, and changing monikers has been on my “to do” list for some time.Gweedo said something about names a while ago which prompted me to (eventually) do it.-As for putting a face to go with my name, the only pictures taken of me in the last 15 years were x-rays and for my drivers’ license, and the x-rays look better.
Looking at Apollo handling that gun makes me wonder if he’ll accidentally kill someone with a wild shot that goes through a wall (or two). He’s arguably the most dangerous one in the building. At least, for that first shot.
As you look at these Jokers today Flashing Guns (and those from earlier this week) - you got to pause and wonder WHAT their “end of the day” plan is ?
They know the building is “surrounded”, no ‘way out’, save the helicopter (now cut off*!) and perhaps a ‘super secret’ exit (a-la-Axelrod) but ‘known’ only to a select few?
So ‘WHERE’ do they GO from here by fighting ?Makes ‘sense’ only as a temporary delay, and IF there IS an escape route available.
Why take a bullet or death when in the Wizard like World of Mr. Kleen, continuous BAIL Is synonymous with freedom and JAIL is only an overnight stop ?
Just ask the “experienced” *Doubleup
, B-B Eyes or Mumbles, given their “Out Time” Freedom - since 2011 !99% ?
Beats the “Heck Out” of Fighting and near Death Risk !
Having fired similar big guns, they are particularly useless in a shoot out. The muzzle blast can be blinding and deafening, the recoil can be managed with practice, but can be uncontrollable in stress fire situations. Even worse, in a hairy situation, a shooter is already twitichy and if he is already a bit nervous about his hand cannon, over- or miss-reaction risk is increased ever so much. Can’t end well.
Gweedo ‘the Flash Gordon of GoComics’ said about 13 Midnight snacks ago:Ronnie you are ever the shirker. I don’t know how to handle comments.-———-You are doing an excellent job my friend. Be healthy, wealthy and wise.
Uh, you might want to review this week’s strips…-I guess my joke was too subtle. I was aware we had seen Tracy this week and was making light of the bellyaching we heard this month about the great detective being awol.
The .50 cal in the pistol is likely something like a .50 Action Express, simply a big pistol round, a bit fatter and about twice as long as a .45ACP (if I’m remembering correctly). Very much NOT a .50 Browning Machine Gun round, which is a huge scaled-up rifle round, all but impossible to be done in a auto pistol.
I need to know how you print a link without it launching.
It’s a bit tricky. You have to use < and > for the less than and greater than symbols < and > and you should use " for the quotation marks so it doesn’t get turned into opening and closing ones.
In the Province of Quebec, you are definitely supposed to have a “neutral expression” for the Health Card and I think for the driver’s license, too, similar to the rules for a passport. Mine wasn’t as neutral as it could have been, but they didn’t reject it at least.

If the .50 cal. rounds that Apollo is using are anything like the ones we used in a .50 cal. machine gun in the 1950s, they are very impressive!

Whatever Apollo spent on that hand cannon, he would have better spent it on a new hair stylist. Or, a set of sheep shears for the DIY coif.
