Trigger DOOM”? (A Tracy villain from a couple years before 88 Keyes.) This is certainly turning out to be, “…not like anything you ever seen before in this strip,” as Neil Wick quoted a couple of days ago! Will love to see where this is headed! Team Tracy has never disappointed, in my opinion,.
If 88 Keyes is back can it be long before we return to the Wheaton farm? That’s where he charmed young, naive Nellie Wheaton, making her believe he was going to marry her and causing her to unwittingly aid him in his escape.
Here’s the last we saw of ol’ 88 on July 10, 1943:
I believe believe the theory that Diet’s time experiments may have had some unintended consequences may have some credibility.
88 Keyes is a good guy? Is this a “mirror” of reality? It would make sense given the title of the story. Whatever is going on, I like how this is starting.
I am still not convinced that this is the same 88 Keyes as the dead fish dead character from the 1940s. If it is, some explanation will be in order. Ditto for Trigger if this is Trigger Doom. Maybe what we have seen so far is a big flashback to the old days? What is clear enough for me is that this Mr. Keyes is not an entirely clean, innocent businessman; he knows too much and too many shady people (such as Trigger)….
Yeah, not one of Gould’s finest moments. Even tossing out modern rules about use of deadly force by police, even granting that Tracy was (improbably) correct in every assumption — that the person in the shack was 88, that he did not have a hostage in there, that he was poised to shoot anyone opening the door — there are better ways to resolve that situation.
GWEEDO! who’s that great looking guy in those pictures standing next to a typical NYC Newsstand? LOL!! Thanks for posting them buddy. And thanks to Matthew,,,, Emmmm,,, I mean StillDaMan! for taking the pictures for me. He’s a great photographer!!
Yes, Mel was the most difficult. When Rich Little was on Family Guy, I suspected it was Mr. Little, but wasn’t quite sure until Quagmire said it was him. He does an impressive Regen, but it wasn’t quite him. The speed was a bit slower, and pitch was off too.
Now the gentleman who did Fred Flintstone and Wm. Bennet of “Life of Riley” was easy.
When I was growing up, I could tell you what voice actors was playing what cartoons even until the 80s.-That’s impressive. I do think that Mel Blanc is very challenging to say the least.
My hypothesis is that this will be a time-travel story, a real one this time. Remember that Diet Smith talked of working on Time travel in the last big thread but was abandoned?
The biggest problem of course, is Tracy, Sam and the others going back to the 40s, and meeting themselves. Unless Tracy is more in his 50s, which means he was born around 65, and…
Locher expanded on Gould’s pop art by moving it more into the impressionist realm. His balance of black and white in his dailies to me was classic. While his use of primary colors in his Sundays (likely brought about by the primary colors of the Warren Beatty movie) fit perfectly with his somewhat abstract style, I was never a fan of the brightness of the colors since I felt his stylization and black and white dailies seemed to evoke more of a film noir feel.
1943 was a banner year for Gould and the Tracy strip. During the 12 months of 1943 Tracy battled Pruneface, 88 Keyes, Mrs. Pruneface and finished off the year in December with the appearance of Flattop.

Either it’s Time Travel, a prequel, or a live feed from the 9th circle of you-know-where.

Wasn’t that also where Sparkle had been staying when she had amnesia a few years ago?

And didn’t Wheaton Farm turn out to be near the grainery where Tracy and Mordred took shelter during The Storm of The Century" …?

Could this story turn out to be a series of vignettes linked by headlines from the Midnight Mirror …?

Whoever this new “88” Keyes is, he’s about to find out that walking down a dark alley is bad for one’s health.

According to THE DICK TRACY WIKI, Jimmy “Trigger” Doom was apprehended and confessed to the murder of Czar Rennis in 1941.

Trigger Doom wore a bow tie. Seems like anything is possible in this “mirror.” What might we see through a glass, darkly?
