If the final confrontation with Abner Kadaver is not until next year, Abner might not be involved in the current caseIf the actor playing Boss Tracy will be the next victim, DT will take over the role whether he likes it or not.

I have a new theory. Maybe Orlock’s death was a suicide, and someone blames the movie production for it and seeks revenge.

I’m wondering if this is some deranged fan of Tracy who doesn’t want to see him portrayed as a crime boss. Is there anyone in Tracy’s past that fits this description?

Detectives always look for three things, Means, Motive, and Opportunity.

1.) Who has the means of executing – No pun intended – These crimes?

    Gruesome?

Sure, but he’s probably locked up tight.

    Abner Kadaver?

    At large, but likely not.

    Blackjack?

    Doesn’t fit his M.O.

Hardly a comprehensive list, just existing villains whose names have come up.

2.) Who has a motive for the murders?

    Disgruntled former production employee?

    Maybe.

    Bereaved Orlock loved one?

    Possibly.

Someone who would financially profit from “Midnight Mirror” shutting down production?

    Can’t rule this out.

An individual going way, way, way out of their way to lure Dick Tracy into an ornate death trap?

An enjoyable time to be had, for sure.

One who took umbrage at their portrayal, or the portrayal of a friend or family member on-screen?

    Uh …

… anyone seen Sam’s wife lately?

    Wendy Wichel?

Only if it turns out that “Adam Austin” is a front, and Wendy ghosted the "Midnight Mirror stories, but ended up frozen out of the profits.

Highly unlikely, yet sort of had to put that out there.

3.) Who had opportunity/access to the scene of the crimes?

Pretty much all of the production personnel, including real persons, living or dead.

    To name a few …

    Lloyd Newman, Producer.

Might he benefit off of production insurance?

    “Adam Austin”

A known pseudonym. Could he have legitimately hated his agent? Enough to kill others to throw the cops off his scent?

Someone who – at the moment – appears to be dead?

It would be cruel to mess with The Unofficial Staton/Curtis Dick Tracy Death List in such a fashion. Still, it’s something Agatha Christie wouldn’t think twice about.

Plus, at the rate Mike Curtis is culling the suspects, soon there won’t be anybody left.

    Mary Perkins?!

She does have ties to both Hollywood in general, and The Patterson Playhouse in particular – Plus, she and Dick Tracy have a history, as they “Shared Ink” in Chicago years ago.

Surely no one would see that coming.

    Vitamin Flintheart?!

Someone else who has ties to Hollywood, the Patterson Playhouse, Dick Tracy, and even known criminals – if you count Flattop.

Highly unlikely. But could the snub of not being asked to appear in the film, coupled with its defamation of his friend Dick Tracy have caused Vitamin to snap?

And last, but not least …

    Kandikane Lane

    Woo!

    Gosh!

Ties to Hollywood, the Patterson Playhouse, and – Through Vitamin – Dick Tracy.

Possibly suffered a psychotic break when she found out that Vitamin had been snubbed by the production?

Yeah, I know, highly unlikely, but hardly anyone would see it coming.

Plus – just on principle – part of me really wants “The Hangman” to turn out to be a woman.

    1) [smiles] Thank you.

Oops, I think you were actually the first to note the difficulties of pulling off this particular set of murders, so props to you, Kantuck.—2) That is an interesting idea indeed! Gruesome was involved in theater, or am I remembering Mr. Karloff?

Of course, it might also just be someone really strong.Could “The Hangman” be … *Gruesome?

Gotta be someone with an eye brow fetish or hatred. This poor sap played “The Brow” and Byron Orlock was star of “The Eyebrows,” which was said to be cursed because other actors died while playing the starring role

Something tells me that it took two people to do that dastardly deed. SDM held the stiff up while none other than Mattie placed the noose over the stiff’s head and they both hoisted him up. Sorry, SDM and Mattie; I just couldn’t hold it inside any longer.

Freddy Capp, a.k.a. The Brow, plus (the first) Boss Tracy, plus the two-names agent. An eclectic bunch of victims, with only their connection to The Midnite Mirror and the instrument of death in common—all found hanging from the beams/runners/rails common in an old-style loft theatre (where flats are suspended above the stage and raised or lowered by counter-weighted pulleys). Still no clear motive, must less identification, for The Hangman….
