Not surprising she won’t believe him after everything else. Which makes me wonder if Oscar is involved with Alex’s dealing; he knew Cheesecake was high.
On the one hand, it’s unfortunate that Peggy doesn’t know the truth about Alex and it will devastate her when she learns it from the authorities. On the other hand, she’s not wrong to still distrust the messenger as we’ve previously learned Stephan’s only concern for his nephew is how he can use Alex’s upcoming legal troubles as leverage.
Does sinister Steph offer to help only if his sister signs over the deed? And does Tim Wildman arrive just in time to save the day so that Alex gets paid legal counsel AND Peggy gets to keep the house and preserve the irreplaceable waterfront habitat? I’m a bleeding-heart Romantic with a capital R, so it’s no secret what I’m hoping for…
I’m joining late today. I got a new computer last week and I was busy moving files and programs over and setting up a new table for it. I’ll finish commenting on yesterday this afternoon.
Anyway, it’s no great surprise that Peggy doesn’t trust Stephan, but today’s strip does answer a couple of questions that have been bothering us.
1. Is Aquarius on drugs? We haven’t actually seen him taking any, but the mention of rehab today sounds like Alex went through a drug rehabilitation program but then went back to the drugs. He may have been high when the accident happened and that triggered the rehab.
2. Various commenters have wondered if Peggy knew about the drug dealing or it she was even the boss behind it. It’s finally confirmed today that she didn’t know anything about it and refuses to believe that it exists.
OK, so what am I missing here? In panel 2, Auntie Bellum asks if they need to find Aquarius to “help him”, which makes sense. Her brother’s answer is “we can’t…” but why not? Clearly Auntie’s take is that Stephan is lying about the whole thing, but as we know, he’s not. So what is he saying; why can’t he/they help Aquarius?
1-MR. BIGG: Look. I don’t blame you for killing Mom and Dad. They were always so sickening with their love and concern for you. But that house!
2-…It’s just a hangout for off-duty cops these days. The neighbors are starting to talk. Sell it to me and I’ll replace it with a beautiful clubhouse for the golf course I’ll build on the nature preserve.
3-PEGGY: THEN WHERE THE HELL AM I GONNA LIVE, FOOL?
MR. BIGG: Ya ever hear of Maralago?
PEGGY: Keep talking…I hear the owner is very “hands on” if you know what I mean (tee hee).
MR. BIGG: SURE I DO. AND YOU’RE JUST HIS TYPE! Cough! Choke! So we have a deal then?
Peggy a.k.a. Auntie Bellum is not the hag I thought she would be after being under wraps for over two months. Kudos to Joe and Mike for maintaining a mystery.
Well Neil’s new computer didn’t improve his comments. We can read Neil. Mary Worth’s evil twin seems angry, probably because she can’t understand this story.
Interesting story line today….battle of two individuals with strong wills. I guess I am going to find if blood is really thicker than water or does how much money to be off of real estate trumps everything.
The artwork in panel 2 is great, but the dialogue is a little confusing … first Stephen seems to hint he wants to help Alex “before something happens,” like getting shot by the cops, I guess, but then tells Peggy asks if he wants to help Alex Stephen seems to say it’s too late.
After years of depending on Alex for her day-to-day care, she is blinded to what he is really doing and snaps at brother Stephan when for once he speaks the truth to her—it’s such a novelty, I’d guess, that she has no reason to believe him and every reason to assume (incorrectly) that he’s just saying this scurrilous stuff about Alex as a way of getting her land for his proposed “development.”
When this story finally ends, any surviving Bellums are bound to be unhappy and disappointed in one way or another….

Good morning™, misinterpretations !
So sad to see Peg mad over a misunderstanding. Sounds like Oscar really cares; after all Alex is his boy.

Alas, poor Auntie Bellum!
