Woman: Wait. Did you put the foam in before the espresso? Alex: It's possible. What's the difference? Woman: What's the difference? It's not a latte! Don't you know anything? Alex: I do. I have an advanced degree in micro-robotics from MIT. Woman: And they taught you nothing about lattes? Alex: Sadly, no. May I keep your change?

Oh, for the days when it was Just A Cup Of Coffee, instead of Molte Vente Grande Stupido Meretrix grown from civet-shed beans with dashes of cream churned from three separate breeds of goat.

So the foam goes in first for a latte? Who knew?

The dangers of specialization:You may not know the proper way to make a latte or disarm a bomb or perform brain surgery..the benefits of specialization: What you DO know how to do, you know very wall

I like the Frank & Ernest strip where they are in a Starbucks-type coffee shop and one says to the other, “One time I got so confused by all the choices that I ordered an Al Pacino.”

I was only thinking this morning, watching the barista deal with my order along with the rest of the morning rush, that although I would be well over-qualified for that job, and am paid much more in mine, there is no way I could remember that constant stream of orders and get even half of them right.

Baristas of the world UNITE. I always thought a smarter wirkforce was the key to the advance of civilization.

those people who must customize their “coffee” at starbucks should be punched in the neck. also, waterboard those people with hot coffee.(gop says that isn’t torture, just enhanced interrogation techniques, and legal under geneva conventions).

The One True Coffee is that sold by Tim Horton’s.
None better to be found at any other retail outlet.

I can’t remember what happened in the story of her life to cause Alex to be so financially unendowed compared to her successful career helping Mike’s internet companies.

At a very serious Starbucks in Houston across from the Manned Spaceflight Center, I ordered a half-caf espresso. As a wise-ass afterthought I added, “Caffeine on the top”. The counterperson wrote it all on the cup and called it out that way a few minutes later, when it was ready. Who knows what the barista thought.

Well, now I know that the majority of comic commentators prefer Folgers and 7-11 coffee.
Illuminating.

-When did info about fancy coffee turn into street-smarts?

“I tried a “starbucks”. Once. it was terrible . . .”Try a mocha (mine’s decaf, with one pump of chocolate) with whipped cream and the sweetener of your choice. Mmm.
King_Shark almost 11 years ago
I make my own coffee, and I actually prefer my coffee – instant with milk and sugar, sometimes with a little cheese melted in – to any of the fancy mocha cappuccino latte kopi luwak bla bla I’ve ever tasted elsewhere.

And here the real future is in macro-robotics. Though if you can do the one transitioning to the other isn’t hard. Specifically military robotics. She already has the clearance for it.

I try not to go to Starbucks too much. The drinks are great but full of empty calories.

The joke is that the customer paid with currency (hence the reference to “change.”) Today, the elite (as this customer clearly is) complete even the smallest transactions with plastic in order to gain frequently flyer miles or pay off their mortgage.

Probably the way I refuse to capitalize “republican party”; they just don’t deserve the trouble or respect.

You want to make a comment on worthless college degrees, the nanny and Alex should have Liberal Arts degrees.

I doubt Alex would be unemployed with that degree. Sociology majors though…

Most of the Baristas (sp?) at Starbucks are really good at what they do — and they do it for the healthcare benefits. One I know is a teacher, but she gets better benefits at Starbucks. I’ve run into a couple of bad apples, who just don’t seem to know how to make the drinks properly, or interact with customers (Alex’s problem), but mostly Starbucks is a good experience.
