In this age of Corona, reusing a hand towel doesn’t sound sanitary to me. If the towel is damp, I just wring my hands and let them air dry. And this is in my OWN house. In other people’s houses? Guest towels? Hmmmmm. I take that on a case-by-case basis.
I think most people really do not understand. If you are home, don’t worry about it. It’s only when you’ve been out and about that an additional washing is recommended.
Above all. Don’t share towels! Sort of defeats the purpose. But If you washed properly, there should be no live virusses on your hands.
If you have to use a public restroom: Use a paper towel to dry your hands, and then use the same towel to turn off the faucet and, if necessary, to open the door. Be sure and dispose of it properly.

Wait a few seconds before drying so that some of the water drips off your hands.
And I second use a bigger towel, or have more of the small ones in the bathroom. When one gets wet, let it dry.

Put it in the dryer to dry it and then put it back out or hang it over a chair to air dry.
