Oh hey, the characters remember Marx’s ship too. CONTINUITY! \o/

I was reading all of yesterday’s comments and was thinking how much fun we all have guessing what is going on/going to happen/has happened and how nice we all are about our different ideas. So refreshing….and FUN!!

Trust Kirbee to put her finger on the important point her, water first, theorize later.

The Dittoes have left the building!So no elevator for our crew.This is the quietest Holly has been in… Well, quite some time.What’s the matter?Cat got her tongue?Kirbee ascends swiftly, she may get there first, hopefully she won’t push any buttons.Mice are excellent climbers, by the way. I’ve seen them run up the sides of buildings and go up 4-5 stories in less than 15 seconds.We’ll see how Holly does with 35 stories of freighter.

I can’t, offhand, find any specs on the Edmund Fitzgerald or other Great Lakes ore ships—-which this, as we noted last time, resembles—-so I don’t know where the freshwater tanks would be. But if the ship has been there some time, and at an angle, they might be drained out and dried out.Wouldn’t hurt to look, though.

Inside they find Turkey, Gravy and Mountain Dew.

Too bad they didn’t find something to drink that isn’t poison.

It’ll be The Poseidon Adventure turned 90 degrees.

Actually this ship makes a lot more sense as a Lucranean salvage vessel than the Opabinia Queen. A fairly modern lakes freighter is much more likely to have survived and useable by the time the Lucraneans had developed antigrav technology than a wooden sailing ship.

I like Wally’s comment in panel 2.Ship: “Where DID the water go? It’s been 7 years. How much longer am I going to have to wait until it comes back? It said it was just going out for a quick smoke.”

Oh, as for the speculation regarding the dittos responding to Wally’s lapse in concentration? Bzzzt. Thanks for playing.Does anyone here remember what the Lucranian bridge computer looked like?

TSOJ mentioned the O. Queen’s bridge computer…. …that also controlled dittos. It tried to catch Marx’s. If a similar computer is on this vessel, and still aware, then perhaps either Wally’s dittos sensed it and ran…or it has captured them.

The dangling lines could be the remains of lift envelope rigging- if the ship was lofted by such and the pods are merely thrusters of some sort.

Poor Kirbee her butt still hurts after loosing her tail.As for her comment……pure Kirbee.But still with hatches still closed. Stuff not removed. What is protecting this ship from salvage??And the dittos fled…..what are they afraid of??

I’m worried about Kirby going off by herself, (with Chic) alone. What if it has a booby trap or one of those Egyptian curses? I’m SO happy that Holly is getting a bit more like herself. She was almost always so sweet.

Veteran- The loose lines as life-boat rigging was my first thought in the previous scenes as well, but would only be adjacent to likely lifeboat positions, not draped over the various propulsion pods.

So that big question mark wasn’t the dittos reflecting Wally’s surprise, the dittos themselves were surprised? So maybe there’s something about this ship that’s different than the Opabinia Queen. Let’s hope it’s not in a bad way. That ‘dehydrated corpse’ comment did seem a bit odd. But very accurate. Kirbee’s showing up to be rather on the ball during this trek.A ship at that angle should still have plenty of water in the tanks if there was any to start with, and it didn’t hit really hard. Hope the dittos stick around.

Forgot to mention, the kitchen is called the galley and the eating area is called the mess.

The dittoes seem to dissipate and just hang around (like the Oort cloud around the sun) unless specifically needed or when warning about something. The could also be actively providing cover from the satellite, which is something that may be happening for the ship and the only way our group was able to see it was because the ship’s dittoes sensed Wally’s dittoes and allowed them to see it.I know my explanation seems a little confusing, but I hope it’s understandable.

When the computer in the Opibinia Queen sees A. Marxes dittos, it tries to catch them. So “free” dittos would avoid ship systems.

I enjoyed going on that flashback of Marx’s dittos. I read a little going up to it and a little past.I was sure funny to see Wally’s feet zipping out behind him from the door being opened.

If this ship was owned and operated by the Lucranians, the captain’s room will probably be opulent and well-stocked, while the cargo holds will be nothing but salvaged junk. (And one or two stray RPGs.)

The Lucraneans are scavengers and salvagers, so I think the ships are both found objects that were refitted for flight.

Re: everybody: on the issue of dittoes. When we first met them, in the Albert-and-Gustine adventure, we found a whole bunch tormenting Sparkplug over his role in the apocalypse.Suggestive that, in larger and larger numbers, the more and more intelligent they are—-and perhaps more and more willing to act in their self-interest.

My then-wife and I traveled, in 1968, from Fort William (now Thunder Bay) Ontario to Hamburg on a bulk freighter carrying grain, chartered by a company owned by a friend of my father’s We stayed in the Owner’s Cabin, and ate at The Captain’s Table, along with the Chief Engineer, the Chief Steward, and an engineer from the ship’s engine’s manufacturer (it was the ship’s maiden voyage, so he was there to keep an eye on things). There was another passenger, in the Pilot’s Cabin, I think it was.

FWIW, I believe that it is common practice in the shipping business that freighters have a couple of cabins that are at the disposal of the person/company chartering the ship. Apparently, a small number of passengers are allowed without tripping the limit that would require cruise-ship regulation to kick in. http://www.transitionsabroad.com/publications/magazine/0105/freighter.shtml
