Teenager boys are the most irrational creatures ever. Glad I was never one.

With regards to that exchange in the final panel, as the Capitols once astutely observed, “Now the moment of truth has finally come”.

    …SPOILERS BELOW…….

And here we have that tired, overused, irritating and tedious theme in The FOOB which many people can’t stand: The whole “childhood friends and sweethearts who grow up together end up getting married“. Lynn Johnston has this notion that there must be at least a 10-year history between two people… starting out as friends, then growing into awkward teenage romance, then finally blossoming into true looooooove, with every step of the way being observed and earning the stamp of approval from the parents. Gord/Tracey, Liz/Granthony, Michael/Dee, etc.. throw in anyone new who came onto the scene in college or shortly thereafter (Therese, Paul, Warren, Eric, et al) who breathed some fresh life into the mix, and they would always get tossed to the scrap heap in favor of the old socks, always waiting in the wings, biding their time because they were always the “main plan” anyway. By the early 2000’s, this comic had become so teleological it was ridiculous.

Often we don’t want to roll with someone we know, because we know how they roll. Other times we just don’t want to spoil a good thing. Seinfeld comes to mind.

Enough of this teen age madness. Let’s get back to a developing baby.

Gordon reminds me an old friend of mine. That ended up losing all his important friends because of all the lies he said for stay with a peculiar girl.

Gordon is being a selfish jerk, which is typical of teens his age. I feel bad for Tracey at this point—she’s no Allyson, yeah, but she deserves better treatment.

Allyson – Flashily interesting on the outside, insipid on the inside. I know mud puddles deeper than that. Tracy, on the other hand, has depth.

Gordo is like all us men. He wants what he can’t have. The more he can’t have it, the more he wants it. Glad high school is in the past. Too many crazy game playing. (I know. They’re in middle school).

When I was in HS we had a new student. She was a very pretty girl and started dating me. I found out later she was only dating me because I was in the popular group. When the popular group excepted her, she dumped me.
