The play is about a NY Lord, MacTramp, and his ambitious daughter, Lady Ivanta. … In this scene, we find Lady Ivanta sleepwalking through the castle, hallucinating and rubbing her hands together as if she is counting. She says: Out, damned Jared! Foul dealmaker and colluder! Out!
To be fair, the English curriculum might not have gotten to The Scottish Play yet…..freshman year was Julius Caesar for us, with TSP on tap for sophomore year.
She must have subliminally picked up some cues, even if she doesn’t remember Lady MacBeth, because why else would an intellectual taint cause her to wash her hands?

I wonder if the High School acting class is as superstitious as a the professional stage actors are and refer to “Macbeth” as “The Scottish Play”?
