While I am no fan of Pius XII, in all fairness we don’t know what he did behind the scenes. He did have to placate Mussolini and later Hitler’s Nazis. Some claim that Pius worked behind the scenes to hide and save many Jews.
Let’s conjecture….. If you had been Pope Pius XII what would have been your reaction to the Nazi actions? This calamity hasn’t been ignored…. And if the real Francis did light a menorah….nice touch. So much history “comes out” years later and we’re revolted….. again…tough decision.
