Technically, the sayings don’t say that larks, clams, and pigs in…whatever are actually happy. They simply say that by comparison, somebody has the same amount of happiness as these critters.
I can’t think of any reason a clam would be happy. Or be happier than any other creature.
They all look so happy, they could just die!
