Girl: I read a guy named Doc Ellis pitched a no-hitter on LSD. What's LSD? Frazz: Oh, boy. Let's see if I can.... Girl: Forget it. If a stat is that hard to explain, it can't be that important. Frazz: Woo! A walk-off save.
When he finally mowed the last man downhe was high as he had ever beenlaughing to the sound of the world going aroundcompletely unaware of the winand while the papers would say he was scattered that dayhe was pretty as a pitcher could bethe day Dock Ellis of the Pittsburgh Piratesthrew a no hitter on LSD
Ol Dock should have been using the LSD when he gave up that home run to Reggie Jackson in the All-Star game in Detroit. If that ball hadn’t hit the utility shed it would still be going.
Night-Gaunt49: I remember an article in Life magazine on the effects of various drugs on orb-weaver spiders’ webs. LSD produced an absolutely regular web. This would support the joke of the time about a guy who was so square, if he took LSD, he would hear Lawrence Welk. Like your experience, it is your real self only more so – which was the original intent in psychotherapy. Not to be used if one is already mixed up.
My cousin teaches fourth grade. On a class trip, she had to take some girls into the ladies room, and there was a sanitary napkin dispenser..“Teacher, they sell napkins here?”.“Yes, I guess so.”.“But what’s this other word? ‘Tamp—’”.“Oh, I think that’s Spanish for ‘napkin’!”
I never did see the draw to LSD. Always made me feel like I couldn’t handle a situation if it came up. I’m a control freak only when it comes to me, and I never felt fully in control of myself with that stuff.
If I buy something at a store or a pharmacy, if they mess up, I can usually take it back or sue them or something depending on how bad it is (not that I ever have sued anyone). That means they have a vested interest in providing something decent. If someone buys illegal drugs, how can they be so sure that it’s even vaguely safe, ignoring that many illegal drugs are illegal because they aren’t considered safe?
ellisaana: In my case, it was research, not personal use. On the other hand, I was around when the CIA was using it on unaware military and possible civilian subjects, so I can’t really say for certain. Probably not, since a lot of those caused very bad trips and some permanent psychoses. And after WW-II, we hanged some Germans for that sort of thing!

If the middle name of LSD is acid why don’t they …. Oh, never mind. People would start calling it “boy” or something like that.

Washington Post didn’t run this one today. Wonder why. They ran one about a raise in allowance for Caufield.

Thank God Frazz didn’t have to explain that one. She learn soon enough, hopefully much later in life.

LSD – only the best drug to do. There is nothing like a good trip to expand the mind. Just don’t eat the Brown Acid!

I think Jef just doesn’t like names having phonically-redundant fourth letters…

I remember learning about all kinds of drugs in 5th grade as part of D.A.R.E. (maybe that program isn’t everywhere)

You shouldn’t be bashful about telling kids what LSD is, provided that you emphasize the stupidity of it.

I used to live in Chicago, and I used LSD quite often. I recommend it! It’s a beautiful road (Lake Shore Drive).
