Depends which rib(s) one breaks. Can be life threatening if the pajn prevents you from breathing properly as a chest infection then pneumonia is likely to follow.
No reason to go back to a doctor or the hospital to rack up more medical bills.
Did I mention that I benefit from statutory health insurance? I recently broke 3 ribs and ripped off all ligaments in one shoulder due to being run over by a car: I had 2 major operations, 18 days in hospital and some 10 months of recovery training at no cost. In the US I’d be ruined, here I’m healthy without debts.
I had a broken rib. It wasn’t the worst since I was lucky to have injured them on a convenient site that didn’t impede breathing, working, and even exercising. As far as injuries go, this one is one of the “best” (Vs. sprained ankles, knee injuries, separated shoulder and extensive skin abrasions due to road rash – never had a different broken bone so maybe some fractures are also relatively easy to deal with).
So yes, the only thing was to endure it, but it still is the brightest, most concentrated pain I’ve ever felt when I rolled on it in my sleep – or the kids gave it a hug. It made me lose my breath and see black for a handful of seconds.
I have some recent experience with this, and I have to say that while it’s not ideal to know that there’s nothing you or anyone can do about your situation, there’s some real freedom in knowing there’s nothing you or anyone can do about your situation.

Broken a rib a couple of times, while it might not be the worst, it’s up there.

Frazz might be right. Requires no medical treatment that one can’t handle for oneself, thus no pills, no bills, so no budgetary pain.

Several people on my prayer list are struggling with terminal illness. I’m sure they would agree with Frazz.

Severely bruised the left ones. No picnic.

Two factors: what’s your pain threshold; and how sheltered have you been in the past.
If you think a broken rib is the worst, you belong on your knees.

While I can go with “not the worst,” Frazz’s claims that it’s “the best” is pretty bizarre.

I guess it’s like a plane ride. Some hate that the situation is entirely out of their control; others find that lack of responsibility relaxing.

A broken rib is the best. “THE BEST.”
I admire this man’s stamina and pain threshold, as much as I do his humility and grace. (All of which are fictitious.)
